Official Rnd 15 vs Souths @ Accor Sun 15th June 4pm

I'm, not sure how playing Internationals at the same time as SOO would work? For example do Crichton, To'o, Tino, Leniu, Haas, Luai, Nanai, Hammer, Olakau'atu, Utoikamanu, Koloamatangi etc play SOO or for Tonga/Samoa?

Only Australia, England and New Zealand are Rugby League's Tier 1, which means NZ and England players are the only ones that can't play SOO, everyone else can.

Origin in Wednesday and obviously origin players will miss out on internationals giving more debuts to other players.

I can't see how my plan wont make money and be fair on the teams, players and fans.

More exposure for fringe international players, more eyes of people who don't care about origin, more ads and more money and most importantly to the owners of the nrLOL more betting.

It's not rocket science... I typed this while sitting in Sydney traffic lol

The argument is always
1) that the players need more preparation time for Origin.
2) The money is in the hype of the multiple weeks between each game.

I think if they play all games for the round before Origin Thursday-Saturday with maybe a Female Orgin on the Sunday to please the TV. They could sort it out back to back over 3 weeks. With other Rep games filling up the void.

Squad’s assemble on the Sunday for medicals etc. Get 10-11 days to work on combinations before game one on the Tuesday. Game Two being the following Monday. With game 3 the following Sunday. This would give the players a better time frame to head back to clubland the following weekend.

I think they should pick a squad of 30 each
With origin tweaked when compared to NRL. Where you have a 20 player team. You’re starting 13 and 7 reserves. Still only allow 4 of those to play. But it would allow the coaches to pick specialist on the bench should a key player down. This would add to the quality & spectacle of Origin. and reduce the chances like Damian Cook or Nicho playing in the centres.

Anything to lessen the disruption that this betting event creates.

SOO is promoted as the best from NSW versus the best from Kweelan, that's why it attracts the big bucks..

The question still is will Crichton, To'o, Tino, Leniu, Haas, Luai, Nanai, Hammer, Olakau'atu, Utoikamanu, Koloamatangi etc play SOO or choose to play for Tonga/Samoa instead?

That's a big proportion of the Tongan and Samoan teams, they could easily choose to play for their Country and not SOO.

Making SOO no longer the best versus the best, SOO would be drastically diminished, no more big bucks.

OR

Tonga and Samoa would be decimated by the loss of that number of players if they choose SOO and the Internationals would be unattractive to viewers and advertisers, meaning broadcasters wouldn't pay for it.

I just don't see how we could have Internationals AND SOO at the same time. The English players are not going to come to Australia to play in the middle of their season, that leaves NZ of the Tier 1 teams. Who do they play, a 1/3rd strength Samoan or Tongan team?

I think we all want that, at least you and I do, its getting it to work for everyone is the tough trick.

The only way I can see it happening (if it happens at all) is if SOO, both men's and women's),is stand alone and the NRL and NRLW stops for 4 weeks. I suspect that Ch9 will insist on it staying on Wednesday nights which means 4 weeks for the 3 games.

With 19/20 teams playing each other once that's 18/19 weeks of NRL + 4 weeks of SOO = 22/23 weeks (currently 27 weeks) then Finals.

Followed by 4 weeks of Internationals every year except World Cup Years. The RLPA is kept happy as players get 6 weeks off before Preseason starts.

I'm not sure I can handle 4 weeks without any Bulldogs games.

Unfortunately Ch9 has exclusive live SOO rights, so in those 3 weeks Foxtel/Kayo would have zero live RL games. While CH7 has live AFL. It's never going to happen.

Maybe Origin will become the victim here.
Perhaps International footy could/should supersede origin.
So many of these origin superstars will NOT play for Australia....and that's fine , cos they are representing their "origins".

If we assume origin is an outdated concept and International footy becomes the "new origin"...
When should we have that?
At the end of the NRL season?
Halfway through the season ...and give the NRL season a 3 round holiday?

I'm not anti-origin btw.
I saw all the original origins in the 80's.

Just throwing out the line ...
