Big loss no matter what anyone says. I get people on here wanted him gone but he’s the only real hooker we’ve had since Ennis. His loss will be felt unless we can get another genuine 9. I’m not convinced that Hayward can play 80 mins in the middle
 
I just don’t get the hate for Mahoney… deadset!!! The kid is a little weapon. Don’t tell me for one minute he isn’t in the top 4 hookers in the comp. The amount of work he gets through, all the little 1% stuff he does that gets un noticed. Don’t get me wrong Hayward is a great little player but why are we shipping out our gun 9? I just don’t get it

There’s been rumours for a couple of years that he’s been shopped around, don’t know about Hayward moving in to hooker I think he’s better in the role he has now

My concern is, what happens with Woods when he’s ready?
 
This was obvious that he was leaving wasn’t it? Is he leaving early or is his contract ending at the end of this year? You could tell the writing was on the wall weeks ago.
 
Was just listening to Reed on Triple M, they asked him about his future and he just said that he leaves that stuff up to his manager. He's been great for us but his brain snaps have been frustrating at times. Him leaving has nothing to do with Galvin.

Sure. Was basically a chance in a starting half role at the beginning of the year. Has been pushed down the pecking order. Still the only game this year where our attack purred was the Sharts game - with Milky at 6.

Has Reynolds vibes about the way he plays except he's not a defensive liability. And thats as a fill in - how good could he be if given time in the job. Is basically a quality pickup for any team in the comp. Kid could be looking at $500k+ for a club thats keen and if he shines in the halves - that money is doubling in no time.

So he's gunna stay as a fill in or being plunked as a 9 by us or take a much bigger spine contract elsewhere? Know what I'd do if I was Milky.

It's not a surprise at all but the timing of the announcement isn't ideal. Mahoney needs to look after his future, and the club weren't going to keep him long term or match what others would offer, so best of luck to him.

But we have no depth there. Even if Hayward can transition into that role full time and do well, we need another option behind him because it's a big ask to expect Hayward to play there for 80 minutes week in, week out.

Hopefully another hooker is signed before next season. If Liddle is still available, he'd be a good depth option and can impact the game from the bench.
 
Gus said he asked for last say in Reeds contract negotiations.

Gus must approve of this early release of Reed.

Probably we are going thru another culling exercise of guys not fitting into Ciro's mould with Sexton and Mahoney and we can expect some more to follow.

Because Gus and Ciraldo don't want Mahoney long term and don't want to/can't afford to match what the Cowboys and other clubs would offer.
