That was just a smoke screen, to take the focus off the fact they were letting go of their captain and best player. But it does highlight my point about the exposure he would bring.
Do you really think the publicity would be beneficial though?

DT front page for weeks with sensationalist, negative smarta$rse headings.

We dont want any controversies or side issues derailing our build or distracting the players and coaching staff.

He is a perfect fit for Rorters or Parra :grinning:

The press will be hounding the guy constantly provoking a comment out of him.

It will be a circus with an aging clown that we don't want.

Baz is building the team around young, team players. We have our superstar coming next year in JAC. One's enough at this stage of the build.

Sonny Bill was a scoundrel when he left us but it didn’t take long for him to become a media darling after a few good performances at the rortsters A few of falous miraculous aerial tries out wide would soon have the media singing his praises.

Yes News Ltd would just play both sides of the Falou debate to keep the headlines churning. I don't want him in the game anywhere myself.

Many on here keep saying we need a metre eating prop (to replace Napa) but I haven't heard any names suggested other than Emre Guler. There's not many available now for 2022 besides Aaron Woods and Tolman LOL ( I hope Barrett's not a fan of Woods). If Napa doesn't do anything special this year which is very likely who would you replace him with ? No use naming players already signed for 2022 unless you have some inside info or genuine belief about them being released early.

I just hope we sign a big body prop like a Junior Paulo - someone who can bend the line like Kasiano used to (how's he going in the UK by the way ?).

George Burgess ? Just released by his UK club. If he recovers from hip surgery (7 months) will be looking for a club in 2022.

I've read we've been keen on Patrick Carrigan for a while but I've never seen him play. Is he any good ? He's in contract until end of 2022 though.

Any decent props from the list below ?

Look at it this way. Having read till about halfway through page four of this thread, it's quite obvious that he's a polarising figure. Some people think his actions in using his public profile to vilify people was a **** of an act (myself included) some don't. I don't want this kind of polarising figure causing contention among the fans. I'm really hoping for pleasing results and smooth sailing to be what we remember this year for.

Other good points made in this thread are that there are people playing that have done worse things. That's true. On balance what he's done doesn't deserve to have him excluded from the game given that worse people are allowed to play. But I'd have kicked a lot of players out if my moral codes were the measuring stick.

Guler

Schonig (I don't know enough about him, but is a name I've heard decent things of)

Like going into this year, at this time of the year most good players are locked up/still contracted until the end of 2022. Maybe someone contracted will pop up, a few of our signings this year were still contracted. Any older player out of form or past their best I think we'll be putting a line through (Burgess, Vaughan, etc.). I can't believe you haven't seen Carrigan play, he'd be perfect as a prop (little to no chance of signing him imo).

Speaking of SBW, we had weeks of being tortured by sports journalism, radio personalities, NRL promos, Foxtel commentators drooling over him, everything up until that moment on the sideline before he took the field.
When he finally took the field all I saw was premature ejaculation.
Had nothing to do with the sport, was all about the specticle. Just like Haynes ego and just like Falous. Do we really want this for our game?

Hahaha,Great analogy. His most recent sojourn was definitely a massive circle jerk.
I’m not religious, nor do I agree with anything he has to say. But he should still have the right to voice his opinion, and probably the common sense not to do it publicly, on social media
In terms of his ability and what he could offer someone like Katoa playing outside him in terms of experience, confidence etc, would be invaluable. He still has the speed, ball running power, offload and ability under the high ball, to be a massive advantage to our team.
We’re trying to assemble a competition winning squad, not one that would get the most “ likes” on social media

Fair enough. I dont care about his views, Id be more concerned with the sideshow that I feel would be part of the package. Sports journalism in this country is amatuer hour along with commentators and the footy panel shows. I want to see us returned as a threat and a professional no bullshit Club. Also where building for a future buying up younger players and would rather invest with that in mind etc.

Exactly right.

We don't need, or welcome, the hassles.

Plenty more equally, or better talented, younger players without all Folau's baggage to derail the club.

Any club that picks him up would be latently perceived saying they support his views.

Whether you agree or not, that is how the DT and media would frame their coverage of our club....he goes to Roosters or Parra, probably nothing like the same extent of fake outrage and controversy.

I'd take a guess that Folau would be the LAST type of troubemaker Baz want for the team.

What seems to get lost is that millions of people around the world support his view. Many more millions support his right to express his views, even if they don't agree with them.

The noisy voices of a minority, that look for excuses to be outraged, shouldn't out way the majority who were not. Giving in to the PC brigade just empowers and emboldens them even more.

I'm not prepared to support having the club put under that kind of unnecessary blow torch ....so No To Folau.

You said yourself "noisy". The media will play it up for all its worth if it's the Dogs.

That's my concern with the Folau Fiasco. The negatives for our club would far far far outweigh the positives of him out jumping someone for a few tries.

Anyone who thinks that him playing for DT's favourite whipping boy club, and also the rest of the gossip hounds, will work out well for our club is fooling themselves IMHO....let Folau and his homophobic supporters join him at another team, at another club, where his views are welcome.

There's the negative press and there's also the crowd disturbances. People picketed the Catalans team games. It made headlines across the World. That will happen here if he returns to some poor club.

Whether you believe in his cause, feel the same or think gays have the right not to be singled out...this guy is the epicentre of this controversy. This is the reality of the issue around Folau and people need to realise it.

We don't want it diverting attention or pinching momentum from our rebuild and it will if it was to happen.

I really can't see Barrett wanting him. He is too smart to allow Folau in to drag all our energy into him and his divisive views. Well I hope so.

I think we got enough good players to build an empire , you can't buy a premiership it needs to be earnt through hard work and a team with unity and good bonds !
