...Trent Barrett tells Steve Georgallis he won't be at the club next year. What motivation does SG now have to give a rats arse about whether the team wins or loses?

Sorry but all this shit should take place after the season is complete.

here’s an idea where his motivation might come from: **** has no job beyond November

The club should be insisting younger players are selected and play a certain amount of minutes til the end of the season.

Take the decision out of SG's hands as he won't be thinking about the long term development, he just wants to get results to prove his worth as he tries to get another job. Which means he'll keep playing Tolman and Napa 60 minutes and leaving guys like Renouf out of the 17.

Spot on, he is going with safe players rather than using the younger blokes to try and audition for a role for next year.

I see your point but it’s his opportunity to impress other clubs whether that is through results, positive changes or professionalism.

I am sick to death of hearing players, coaches etc whinge about playing when they know they won’t be there next season. How about you play for your own pride, represent yourself well and always put your best foot forward.

Picking Doorey was a surprise and was a good decision. Starting Ogden is a step in the right direction. Both moves paid off. But benching Renouf is strange and makes no sense. Neither does playing Tolman and Napa more than Thompson.

So some decisions have been better but others are just as bad as Pay's.

What happens if SG gets a job before the season ends ........................ see you later ...............we have no coach.

The problem is not SG, it's Barrett, he should have already started as coach. Nothing else really works, it's the only true no compromise solution, while every other alternative has huge downsides. Can't talk to Penrith players, can't work on recruiting players or staff full time. Has to resort to talking to players about resigning on the phone FFS, that's just shit.

We should have insisted that he start the day it was announced, if not tough luck for Barrett, we'll find another coach who can.

Its the best thing Barrett could have done. What other club will offer SG a job next year if he sooks and our team performs worse and gets thrashed every week? It indicates SG can't handle adversity and the pressure of being an NRL coach.

Make good points there! But at least Barrett is keen and is working overtime to get the ball rolling from now on the changes. Hes not just waiting until end of season. So that's a positive i guess.

Hyped for the changes!

Also I dont think SG is not motivated.

Clearly he still cares and how we came back in yesterdays game is a big indicator. Hopefully we continue to see Doorey play more minutes and a few other youngsters.

Otherwise I still believe we have improved dramatically under SG. Its more of a dig at hoe clueless Pay was though lol.

Who is offering Georgallis a job for this season with six weeks left? And even if SG did leave (which he won't) then another caretaker can easily be found for the last few games.

Barrett has confirmed numerous times he's talking to the current squad and is involved in recruitment decisions for next year while at the Panthers.

Does anyone see SG getting a job anywhere else though? I don't - not even as an assistant. Maybe Wests Tigers as he came from Wests.

I don’t know how you can coach a team and prepare a team for next year while having a full time job with another. How can you actively have an interest and be on a recruitment panel, call current players and prospective players while being with your team 5-6 days a week.

You’d never have a soccer player or coach having a team while being signed to another next year.

SG will perform to the best of his ability til the end. If he wins a few games (and he has been unlucky he hasn't won a couple more) then it improves his profile.

I will say this. What he has done since taking over, whether that be playing style or team selections has been more exciting than what Hasler and Pay did combined. With the exception of the Storm game we have been fighting til the end and that simply tells you that they are playing for the coach and he has the respect of the players.

SG has something to offer any team so I think he has everything going for him if we were to win some games. So don't think for one second his heart isn't in it.

Because like any employee or contractor his work commitments to Penrith are whatever agreed hours in his contract (7am to 4pm etc). What he does outside those hours in his own personal time is entirely up to him which is when he calls players etc and prepares for next year. Provided that an employee does not commit an illegal act against his employee (for eg steal intellectual property/assets from the employer etc) an employer cannot restrict what their employee does in their own personal time. Even if Barret came to the Dogs this year he cannot call prospective players during normal hours anyway because they are training with their current clubs. Talking to our current players off contract is a much lower priority because they are not match winners and not in demand with other clubs.

I personally think that what Barrett did was the best thing to do. All our coaching staff have time to seek work elsewhere. Given how many coaches have been sacked this year, other clubs might find use for our guys.
Same goes for any potential player recruits. First box they would tick when seeking, would be who our coach will be. They know that now. Whilst we haven't officially heard of late of any new signings since Cotric, we can't be naive thinking nothing is currently progressing in the background.

If we are to believe the reports and what Barrett has said himself then he has been told by Penrith not to talk to ANY Penrith players or staff. Plainly, if he had started as coach with us, there are some players that he wouldn't be "legally" allowed to talk to anyway, but any off contract this year he would be able to talk to. "Illegally" he could talk to anyone of course.

NRL coaches and assistant coaches don't work 9 to 5 (or 7 till 4) 5 days a week, if they did they wouldn't last a month in the job (Bellamy apparently works 80+ hours a week and expects his support staff to put in the hours too.) Often the video review session starts with the coaching staff the morning after the game, while the physio staff are working on player recovery, so as an example Barrett would have been involved most of last Saturday. Then have Sunday off with his family and maybe review the video of the team that they are playing next, then start Monday morning with the players on last game/next game.

Barrett currently lives at Freshwater but his house is for sale (source ahttps://www.news.com.au/finance/real-estate/new-bulldogs-coach-trent-barrett-lists-luxury-freshwater-beach-house-for-sale-with-32m-guide/news-story/39c3915391734879523f4449e97814bb) and the family is moving back down to the south coast. So he travels 2 to 3 hours a day getting to and from work, say 5 am, maybe that's when he called Elliott. So even if he works the normal 50 to 60 hours a week of an assistant coach he then adds 10 to 15 hours week travelling time. I'm OK with a casual chat on the hands free phone whilst driving, but complex business stuff doesn't mix well with the concentration required while driving in Sydney traffic. If Barrett is spending more than a few hours a week on us I'd be very surprised. Whereas he should be spending 80 + hours like Bellamy.

They might be able to find work within the club for SG and the boys next year if the other grades play, depends on covid.
Will be sad if they get told see ya, but that can be premiership politics.
Barrett will be the boss soon and glad he is already involved in '21
