This is such a bad idea, what's to stop people being kidnapped going to the game then add the civil unrest on top of that.

I thought this was an April fools joke but it was serious.

Who is going to move from Sydney to PNG for a few years living in a cage? Rule out any players with kids.

$600m lol damn that’s a big waste of fucking money.

Cronulla's problem is the lack of ground development, it limits the crowds drastically, no parking, poor public transport and has not much in the way of corporate facilities.

No such problem in Perth, HBF Park is awesome. Plenty of parking, lots of buses and Claisebrook train station is about 10 mins slow walk.

Team First

May be awesome but it's an AFL town with a max of lets take 20k (that's at utter most and I'm being generous there). Not convinced this is smart, could we get another side into Brisbane I do feel it's good to have a game at Suncorp every week

Perth hurt themselves by not making a decision on how much the government is chipping in. NRL weren't going to wait forever. They will be the 19th side anyway
Dolphin's chipped in nothing zero

It's too late for me, because I have such love for the club... but if it wasn't for that, I would have walked away from being *interested* in the NRL years ago.

At some point, you obtain wisdom, and you understand... why did we ever need the Warriors? So it was OK to sacrifice the St. George Dragons for them, indirectly??? And it wasn't some sort of trick or ruse that they merged, but Manly were able to de-merge... and that "finances" were always just a nonsense rationalisation.

I'd like the Warriors gone. So I definitely don't want PNG to join.

I don't believe in this "symbiosis" of the NRL and the game of Rugby League. And this definitely puts the lie to that, because this will ultimately hurt the product, not enhance it.

And I don't mean any superficial "joy" that will almost certainly be plausibly engineered to laud the PNG club with feel-good stories. Because when they come, they will serve to highlight this lie.

The horse has bolted, but Australian national competitions gave in to the commercial imperative of franchising. And it's alienating and gay.

This has nothing to do with the game of football, it's more the fact it will generate income for the NRL

PVL is a sellout

Broncos play at Suncorp every week as it is.
Case in point, their 'away' game at Suncorp for Magic Round every year.

Will it generate money for the NRL though? I don't see how it can TBH, it's not exactly like PNG locals are cashed-up bogans. Wonder what they will pay for a ticket to a game up there? $10 or so?

I can just see it now.
Young players wanting to go out of the gated community to chase tail get drunk and something very bad will happen.

Yes

What market is big enough and before you say Perth how many of them are actually and I mean actually rugby league fans? AFL fans won't (or very few at least) go to league games, they are tribal over there with West Coast and Fremantle in the AFL.

We don't need Central Coast already too many NSW teams. Another one in NZ based off 1-2 good seasons? That's a risk too (this is likely the 20th side though)

PNG is rugby league mad, it's worth the investment

Perth has a strong Rugby League base as they have packed out games when they've taken over there including SOO matches. I had a schoolmate who played reps at school in in the '80's and he came through St. Christophers, and he called me up when playing reps in Perth. I said, "Perth!" they don't play league over there. He replied, it's stronger than you think.

V'landys and Abdo have no idea and are slowly destroying the game we once knew. 16 teams were more than enough and 17 made it worse with byes throughout the season.

20 teams in the then ARL of 1995 proved an absolute joke and brought about the Super League Wars.

That said I'm not against introducing new teams into the NRL, but they can't be all in the ONE competition or the game will once again become a joke and lose a lot of interest as was proven back in 1995 and '96 before the Super League coup occurred.

Competition has to change from its current format and that is by either having a conference set up like they have in US sports or a two-tiered competition with a first division of 12 teams and a second division competition with 8 to 10 teams like they have in the EPL.
