My gut says they’ve gone all in on Opoapu for 7, think he’ll play lower grade while getting specialised training & we’ll either see him later in 2023 or they give him a full pre season and bring him in after Flanagan hits the road … I’d like to see us bring in 2 take us forward metre eater dominant props, that’s what we need ..

If Roosters go with Lenui, instead of letting him go to SL why don’t we grab JWH as a stop gap for 2024 ..

Elite fullback money is ~1m. Tedesco on 1.1m and Ponga on 1.4m, but he's on overs. You might be able to push elite fullback money up to 1.2m but definitely isn't 1.4m.

700-800k is for the best strike centre/second rowers in the game, e.g. Manu and Kikau. I think Crichton is a quality centre so 600k?
Tedesco is in year 2 of a 3 year contract, signed when the cap was $9.6m. If he signed a new contract this year with a $12m Cap it would be ~25% higher which equals close to $1.4m. There is no doubt Ponga is on outrageous overs, for a start he isn't an elite fullback and now he's not even playing fullback.

We can back and forth over + or - $100k all day (and we have in the past) but contracts for 2024 for quality NRL fullbacks is $1.0m plus and Crichton isn't on that. He's on good money for a centre, but not outrageous overs.

So we just don't talk about it? Time to shut down the forum I guess. Using the best information we have as fans he's on fullback money and that's where he'll be playing. With all due respect you grind my gears.
Well speculation has never stood in the way of a good story and has nothing to do with reality,,,so guess away. It's like playing pin the tail on the donkey. Your guess is as good as mine :grinning:

He mentions we have 7 spots left for 2024. There is one player not listed in NRL's signings list for 2024 Top 30. I am curious if it is a junior, or an external signing that hasn't been communicated yet.

Current list on NRL.COM - 22 players / 8 spots
Andrew Davey
Bronson Xerri
Franklin Pele
Hayze Perham
Isaac Matalavea-Booth
Iverson Matai
Jackson Topine
Jacob Kiraz
Jacob Preston
Jeral Skelton
Jordan Samrani
Josh Addo-Carr
Karl Oloapu
Matt Burton
Max King
Paul Alamoti
Raymond Faitala-Mariner
Reed Mahoney
Ryan Sutton
Stephen Crichton
Tevita Pangai Junior
Viliame Kikau

Anyone missing that we know about?
Gus has tweeted before that an outstanding junior will be promoted to top30 next year. my guess Joash Papali'i

Crichton has said a few times that he didn't tell Penrith he wanted to play fullback and would have stayed as a centre. Gus and Crichton have said since he signed that he didn't sign with a guarantee to play fullback.

Obviously he'll get a shot there, but Crichton seems like the type of player who will play where picked if we decided to sign a fullback or put someone like Papalii there.

Based on currently "released" figures, this is the situation ("Apples & Apples" comparison of NRL Top 30 Salary Cap)
2022 A (Full)2022 B (-6%)2023%+/- from 2022 (100%)%+/- from 2022(-6%)
Base$9,700,000$9,118,000?
Veteran/Dev$200,000$188,000?
Car$100,000$94,000?
TOTAL$10,000,000$9,400,000$11,450,000+14.5%+21.81%

* +14.5%: The actual cap increase.
* +18%: For players with the standard form ratchet clause
* +21.81%: If you are trying to stretch the case by observing the increase over the reduced figure (-6% Covid reduction)

* +25%: is absolutely torturing the numbers with a meaningless $12mil Vs $9.6mil comparison (trying to include the secondary list) ie "Apples & Oranges" = not helpful.

The top 5 fullbacks reportedly earn an average of ~$940k (circa 2022). Applying +21.81% to that is ~$1.145 Mil.
Top best-paid fullbacks are probably (2022 to 2023 value under the cap):
1. Turbo (2022: $1.085Mil ->2023: $1.32 Mil)
2. Ponga (2022: $1 Mil ->2023: $1.22 Mil)
3. Tedesco (2022: $940k ->2023: $1.145 Mil)
4. Mitchell (2022: $850k ->2023: $1.035 Mil)
5. Papenhuyzen (2022: $820k ->2023: $1 Mil)

Chricton is nowhere near that standard yet.

Fullbacks 6-10 reportedly earn an average of ~$595k (circa 2022). Applying +21.81% to that is ~$725 Mil.
6-10 are probably:
6. Gutherson (2022: $685k ->2023: $835k)
7. Edwards (2022: $632k ->2023: $770k)
8. Drinkwater (2022: $595k ->2023: $725k)
9. Kennedy (2022: $540k ->2023: $660k)
10. Walsh (2022: $520k ->2023: $635k)

To justify $725k, we're banking on Chricton being at least a Top 8 Fullback.

However, if you think he is one of the best Centres in the competition (top 3 or 4), then...about the same money is just fine.

The top 5 Centres reportedly earn an average of ~$615k (circa 2022). Applying +21.81% to that is ~$750k
Top best-paid Centres are probably (2022 to 2023 value under the cap):
1. Holmes (2022: $710k ->2023: $865k)
2. Manu (2022: $657 ->2023: $800k)
3. Chricton (2022: $615k ->2023: $750k)
4. Graham (2022: $558k ->2023: $680k)
5. Olam (2022: $534k ->2023: $650k)

So, if we got him here for $700-$750k-ish, it probably doesn't matter much whether he lines up at Fullback or Centre.

825k reported figure for Crichton. He's worth 600-700k at centre. 125k overs not bad (225k a little bad), but if he works out at fullback we're not paying overs at all.

Well then, he needs to be a Top 6 Fullback or Best Centre in the game :tonguewink:
* I don't think we have him as $825k on the cap (but, Gus knows...)

Gus has publicly said in the past that if he ever wants to leave the titans than to call him first.
