i Know we’ve had previous Gus Gould threads …. this one here I’m asking questions relevant to now.

‘’I’ve heard commentators talking about the Bears WA franchise and how important it will be for them to get a top GM … I only know of 1 top GM that’s capable of taking on that job, the rest are dud’s and figure heads.

I wonder if Gus could ever be poached away from Canterbury to build a new club and the opportunity to work with big Mal, and if he was, is the club now strong enough and in a position to continue moving forward or would it start to drop backwards.

Personally I feel Gus has been our best signing in 20 years and feel there’s still 5/6 years minimum until the club is seeing the full benefits of the junior pipeline they’re building.

I feel if the Panthers had never lost Gus their production line of juniors would still be firing out gold… but now Gould, Ciraldo, Websters, and Barrett’s juniors that they all spent 10 years training and coaching is running low on stocks, Cleary is going to be found out.

There’s a lesson in that for our club, for long term continued success Gus needs to stay for a very very long time.
‘’thoughts ?

Dude won't leave Sydney, his idea of being adventurous is staying in the same hotel on the Gold Coast for 2 week for the last 40 years.

I agree he will have plenty of opportunity to visit WA and stay in hotels poaching the players of Mal Menninga and bringing them back to their senses with a Pork in Plum Sauce at Belmore does it get any sweeter GOD bless u Gus.

Gus and CC need to both be retained as a priority. They are doing a wonderful job with the club and roster.

I think at this point of his career he will gain more from building squads that deliver titles, continuing his work building the pathways with Fiji and other islands.

It can’t be easy building a side and seeing them win after you leave.

CC should be learning every trick in the book, he has the potential to not only be the best coach, but play the Bellamy/Bennett role in being the final decision maker on all club matters.

Not really about Gus but a bloke who can say build the WA side to be a giant like the Storm could be a tasty lure.

WA will need to be out to score big signings with Mal and a high profile footy manager it's possible.

But Perth is a long flight from Syd. When I home in Italy and can fly 2hs to Paris (no thanks) or London.....just saying. Even NZ is only 3 hrs....that's gonna be a consideration.

Brian Fletcher from Panthers will be my guess to assist.

Still remember the 2004 GF Prelim Dogs V Penrith... Gus walked on the sidelines for channel 9 and the Dog fans were absolutely giving it to him (Roosters GM I think he was at the time)! Dog fans hated Gus after the late 80's even though he was forced out basically for Chris Anderson by his Father in law Bullfrog.

How times have changed.

I think the fact Gus mentioned wanting to sign Ciraldo "for thirty years" is a good sign. I'd say he's committed to us long-term... obviously not thirty years lol but long enough.

We all knew he wouldn't be at the club forever. If and when he wants to go, let him go. We don't really need him any more.

We need to find our next GM of Football (for the coming decades), still reporting to Gus of course, in his new role as 'Dogfather in Residence'.

Dude, he was signed, sealed & delivered the warriors GM, next minute COVID & signs with dogs

I feel like he is treating Canterbury as his final and greatest masterpiece.

Still not finished, however when it is it just might be the greatest work of NRL art ever produced.

It won’t be easily because there is going to be increasing jealousy and rage if (hopefully when) we start to win premierships.

And on another note - with all the drama about the housing crisis in Sydney, now is the time to tweak our Liverpool proposal and finally get approval for new ground - for me that will be the final piece of the puzzle.

He is what you would call proactive not reactive. Doesn’t wait for a situation to arise, he’s already ahead of that situation when it arrives. Very shrewd man is Gus.
