Oh yeah, Gus signing Wayne Bennett would have been such a mistake....
Also there on record saying that player performance doesn't deteriorate.
This guy is clueless and probably pissed Gus off who has been a strong advocate for the club despite not working there for the last few years.
They should be praising him for life for saving their club.

lol he has the job for life, so if he is 88 and can't remember anything he still will be their coach

btw the previous panthers coach to win the title, he was sacked at the start of 2006, about 2.4 years after the title

Although Fletcher is an idiot, he doesn't say Cleary has the job for life, he says:

“I can’t ever see Ivan Cleary leaving the place,” Fletcher said.

And he follows that up by implying that Cleary's continuing presence is connected to everything else going well, which gives him an out, if things go down the toilet, they will absolutely fire him.

Most of the article is Burp Rumfart lashing out at Gus as usual.

Bullshit... We all know that in the NRL, unless your name is Bellamy, you have 1 or 2 poor seasons and you'll be looking over your shoulder.

Madge delivered Souffs premiership after 30 plus years and he still got the boot.

The comments from Fletcher are so naive. He thinks the good will keep coming... Every team has a Premiership window and good for them they got the win, but we all know what happens from here....

The motivation levels drop, opposition teams come after them, players start shopping around for bigger pay packets and eventually at the end the coach is blamed for it all.

Halfway through next season, NCleary gets an injury that brings his career to an end, Yeo has huge falling out with head coach, and Api announces he is transitioning. End of window, it could happen that easily.

Did anyone notice Jerome Luai's future replacement holding premiership trophy with Nathan and daddy.
None other than Jeht Cleary, smug little prick was gifted a spot a year early in Panthers Harold Matthews team that played this year.
Played a massive 3 minutes in one game. Corrupt politics is rife at Penrith juniors, who you know and what you know.

In recent survey from people using Alan79's laptop, 100% of respondents to a quick show of hands clearly indicates that nobody outside of Penrith gives a shit.

why I cheered against Penrith... a GF win would be seen as validation of Ivan Cleary as a coach, a validation he has not earned IMO... he coached Penrith from 2012 to 2015 and had more losses than wins despite a 2014 Preliminary Final appearance loss to us... he had a poor run at the Wests Tigers, recruited poorly and then cut and run (despite being under contract) to Penrith leaving others to clean up his mess... and has now simply benefited from the decade long work done by others to turn Penrith around from near financial oblivion to a club overflowing with rep talent... bravo!

and not simply Ivan Cleary... Bryan Fletcher, Brandy etc. all now get to undeservedly parade around as champions, as somehow better

serious question... is Ivan Cleary EVER preferred as a club's FG coach over Wayne Bennett IF his son isn't the starting and projected long term halfback?
