Nah I'd hold off until next season. If Burns fixes his defence I think he's a valuable asset with his tip on skills etc
I don’t rate him at all. His deficiencies might get unnoticed in a star studded team which obviously not the case with our lot.

These guys need mentoring by a club legend on how to transition to fg and get their defence right for the step up.

Get JMoz in on a regular basis for all centres/wingers.

Same goes for other positions. I know Willie Mason is there which is good but get dedicated respected, recently retired guys who the young guys can relate too...I know of recent times we dont have many ...but still.

Morris to work with Kiraz and Alamoti over the next month just on defending on the edge - decision making, communicating, hit n stick - sounds like a good idea. For years with the exception of Morris Elmasri & Perret Dogs outside backs have struggled in defensive reads more than any other club - rush in n mark space.

Kiraz is next in line from round 11, as he offers a threat with his speed and footwork . I was at the Knights trial match and Alomonti looked slow for a centre , I have heard the wraps on him and was wondering if he is quicker than he showed in that game .

Don’t need to be super quick as a centre if the creativity is there but obviously defensive is a non negotiable. Zac Lomax is not that fast but makes up for it with opportunities he creates. He’s good under the highball also.

From what I have seen Alomonti needs development time against men in reserve grade.

With almost a sole focus on learning the defensive part of centre play. I think with the ball he is a ready made centre.

Speed isn’t as critical if your game is more a power game style like he is. However you cannot be a weak defender and survive in the centres.

Averillo is the classic example of how pushing a player too early in their development. Can effectively ruin any chance they have of be good footballers.

I think Averillo is currently a good reserve grader. That needs to also spend an extended period in reserve grade to become the best player he can be.

Alomoti reminds me a lot of Tim Lafai who was a very good centre in his prime and speed wasn’t one of his assets.

Averillo is a victim of being the best promising player in a shit team that has been forced to play a range of positions while the club figures itself out and the coach tries to justify his recruitment decisions.

Im now of the opinion that Averillo might do himself good to move to another club with stability so he can concentrate on his football. We have stuffed this kid with our poor recruitment, team performances and expectations

This years a write off. Wonder if towards end of season, it’s worth giving him a couple of games. Increase he’s hunger in off season and know what it’s about at top level

Averillo would struggle to find another club. We are the worst team currently and he is lucky to be in the team.

Agree though his development has been stalled if not killed by how we have used him.

Can't 100% blame the club for dicking around players.
At the end of the day they been given an opportunity, will they capture it, or just let it slip?

Averillo is still young enough to get out of the hole he is in with a good personal coach. The reason I still have faith in him is because instead of improving like most young players, he has regressed big time since he started playing in the NRL
Someone posted that he would benifit from using the roids, that might be a bit far feteched, but working overtime with a good strength and conditioning coach in the jim, will help him no end,
IMHO the only position he can become an NRL standard player is at FB. I believe that a specialist FB coach would turn him into a very good No.1

I think moving forward kiraz and schouppe first grade centres and alonotti/averillo to spend time in reggies working on their game will be great for them and help them improve

The issue that Averillo has had since being in first grade is not a lack of talent, pace or skill. He has these three in abundance. IMO, what he lacks and hasnt developed is owning the collision. It looks like sometimes he avoids heavy contact in defence and attack. Since he has played centre he has had very few tough runs and no nice hits on an opposite centre or edge player. A player like Papz, is smaller then him but he accelerates into space and takes tough carries. Avo is no more than a mediocre 14 unless he builds this part of his game

Perfectly said - i watched him in Reggies at ground level - no aggression in attack or defence when opposition is nearby - is a passenger unless there is space between him and defenders - has improved his defence in that he tackles from the side but the ball carrier usually gets a quick play the ball or is able to pass - doesnt seem to make the effort to try and dominate a tackle.

At this point in time I'm not fussed on us losing Averillo. I hope he goes to Melbourne if they lose Munster, I'd rather see the kid have a chance to develop and see if their really is a star player in there rather than waste away in our system.

Question... once his injury is sorted and ready to come back, does he go straight into NRL?

I get it, his young and it's a bit of pressure. On the flipside, he is good enough and better than Burns. Burns is used as a yardage guy on plays 2 or 3 and just gets bashed because he is lanky with no go forward. Surely Alamoti does a better job than that?
Phil told me his going to be playing NSW cup with the Men mostly this season
