NRL loves state of origin. NRL says it’s our spectacle, it’s our showcase. They referee it different to create this showcase, it allows the players to play. They then cripple the club game with constant penalties..... EVERY NRL GAME COULD BE A SPECTACLE

Look at the state of rugby union, to many technical penalties and penalties goals. Some games are 20+ points either side with no tries . That’s what will happen the more rules they bring in, watch a game pre 2011 and you’ll be blown Away by how quick it goes. The only difference being the benefit of the doubt call which is dumb

It's mostly up to the players. Don't break the rules and the penalties will stop.

Sure, say it's great when the referee doesn't blow many penalties, but don't then turn around and have a whinge when your team misses out on a deserved penalty and the oppoition is getting away with shit.

I reckon by reducing penalties you leave the teams to battle it out based on skill and determination and most importantly you remove ref bias which is really what everyone is complaining about.

They need to fix the offside rule or get rid of it because it's a huge problem with regards to consistency. The play the ball rule is stupid because everyone is different, some fatties just can't bend over enough. Its too micromanaged

I think the amount of people leaving the game as supporters should be of concern of the NRL. Appears as though its not.
The problem appears to be to many unqualified personnel in the NRL. The so called NRL Commission is the laughing stock of sport.
It also appears that there are to many in the NRL pushing their own agendas, and not supporting each other as a team.
The game is in total disarray and this NRL board do not have the capacity to fix it. After all, they caused it to be like this.

The problem is that Bill Harrigan came in & reduced the penalty counts to let the game flow. The players & coaches woke up to this & pushed the limits for many years. All of a sudden the NRL have said enough is enough & we will referee to the rules & now blow the pea out of the whistle. They let the Harrigan thing go too far & now have to reign it in. IF (& it is a BIG if) the referees were consistent within games & from game to game then it would work. The problem is they aren't consistent.

Hit the nail on the head. Now we have 5 penalties in a state of origin game in which just as many infringements occurred as in a regular game. From all accounts the game was to be officiated exactly like a competition round......enter Mr Sutton and co refereeing it like the good old days of Bill Harrigan.......

I'm down to half a game a week now. I can usually only stand 40 minutes (sometimes less) of our games between the refereeing and our performances.

Then when the NRL games come back, Refs then over penalise teams to catch up to the penalties they let go in Origin.

There were 19 penalties in the Storm & Broncos game.

2 were after 80 mins. FMD

just award teams with a 6 again if it's a penalty inside opponents half. it would be the simplest solution to fix both problems

That’s because there both cheats.
All the other teams are being unfairly penalized.

Exactly Kaz. Consistency is the key and unfortunately the NRL has , pardon the pun, locked themselves out on this one.

Now we are halfway through season 2018 and Mr Greenberg is changing the goal posts again saying he does not want his officials to nit pick on rulings. We will also have a new way to use the sin bin for players put on report after the whinging and carrying on about the fact that many thought Napa should not have been binned for breaking the face of Korbin Simms...go figure....
