Considering the biggest driver of NRL revenue is broadcast rights, I don't see them doing 17 teams for another 5 years (the usual length of a broadcast deal). It would still only mean 8 games a week or revenue to spread across an extra team.

I still think there is the possibility of a Sydney team fallling over / deciding to relocate.

I don't think this will happen. The closest we've had to this in recent years is the Sharks moving to Central Coast stadium when they were in financial ruins. They worked out that if they played 5 games per year up there they will break even. Since then, they've had better management, a better team, won a GF, got good sponsors on board, and have in place a plan for financial security.

Best thing to do is have a second Brisbane team and add the Central Coast Bears.

Split the comp and have two comps with a proper home and away season with relegation and promotion.

Get out of here with your soccer shit....

I genuinely think it would be way better in the long-run. Would be a better way to introduce new teams, more games that are more evenly matched, better for player development, potential loans between clubs in different divisions, etc.

TK would also be crazy if we got relegated, probably kill each other and shit.

The Sharts have had 3 CEO’s in just over 12 months. Something isn’t passing the smell test in the Shire...

Yeah, we occasionally hear about this property deal with their stadium, but I'd say financially they are pretty fucked.

This property deal was supposed to lead them to the land of milk and honey but hasn’t materialised. Now with the renovations, the vast majority is the leagues club, but still requires the stadium to close for the duration. Could be a case that the leagues club has a few bucks but the cupboard is bare at the footy club.

There are so many problems with relegation and promotion, most commonly the team that gets promoted falls flat and gets relegated shortly after and the team that gets relegated is still strong enough and gets promoted shortly after. It achieves nothing in terms of improving either competition.

My view is that eventually we will end up with a "play each team once" competition which will need around 20 teams. Together with a mid season break for 3 weeks for Internationals, Challenge Cup and SOO. It would be good to hold them all after the GF, but they would end up an anticlimax, so mid season seems the most likely.

They didn't have a Bullfrog to set up the Football Club and Leagues Club mutually beneficial business relationship.

A dead shark still stinks regardless of how many peptides you inject into it

Smother it in batter and deep fry it.
Best outcome for all (except maybe arteries) :-).

Melbourne (18k) had the equal (with Parramatta) 3rd highest attendance at games last season with the Donkeys on 30k as the highest and Newcastle 2nd on 19k. FYI we were 9th with 15k.

3k difference between 3rd & 9th? about 70k bums on seats over the season.

Bums on couches have some interesting stats too. According to https://tvblackbox.com.au/sports/2019/10/8/2019-nrl-season-by-the-numbers:
"The Clubs
During the premiership season, Brisbane was the most-watched team on television with more than 16 million people tuning in to see them play throughout the season, averaging 680,000 viewers per match. They also had the top rating averages on both Nine (640k) and Foxleague (254k).

Rounding out the top 5 on average figures on Nine was Melbourne (593k), Sth Sydney (584k), Nth Queensland (575k) and Parramatta (560k)

Completing the Foxtel top 5 on average figures was Melbourne (251k), Wests (250k), Parramatta (245k) and South Sydney (243k).

A tale of two cities….the rest
In Sydney, the highest rating match was Round 12s Parramatta v South Sydney game which rated 259,000. 13.9 million people watched the NRL on Nine in Sydney in 2019 at an average of 197,000 per game. Matches involving Sydney teams rated an average of 198,000, while matches including both sides from outside Sydney rated an average of 186,000.

In Brisbane, the highest rating game was Round 2s Brisbane v North Queensland fixture which rated 240,000. 8.743 million people watched on Nine during the season at an average audience of 123,000 per game. Matches involving the Broncos average 173,000 for the season, while Queensland sides averaged 157,000. Matches involving two out of state teams rated an average of 107,000.

Outside of the two main cities, the highest rating game in Melbourne/Adelaide/Perth was the 66,000 who watched Melbourne v Brisbane in Round 1. The same game also had the highest rating regional audience with 325,000 "

Which is why the next team added will be a 2nd Brisbane team.
