NRL clubs interested in Canterbury Bulldogs prop Aaron Woods, but only at the right price
LEAGUE

  • he wants to join Cronulla to play finals football under Shane Flanagan.

Woods views the Sharks as his first choice, should the Bulldogs push him out the door.

Under Flanagan, the Sharks have missed just one finals series since 2012, while Woods has only featured in one finals series in his career - with Wests Tigers in 2011.

It was also reported Woods had expressed a desire to return to Concord, but Tigers coach Ivan Cleary didn’t appear all that interested in luring him back.

Considering the Tigers signed Kiwi Test props Russell Packer and Ben Matulino, there wouldn't be enough cap space to fit in another prop, especially one on Woods' money.

While it remains unclear whether the Dogs are shopping Woods around to rival clubs, they are reportedly open to offers.

According to The Australian's head rugby league writer and Sporting Newscontributor Brent Read, the Sharks are the logical suitors for Woods.

"(The Bulldogs) have cap issues, they've obviously moved on Moses Mbye, and Woods is on big bucks," Read told Sporting News.

"There are two ways you can move a guy on - one, you don't want him, and you think you're overpaying him. Two, you need someone that wants to buy him.

"There are clubs that will buy Woods at the right price. The key is to get him at the right price. No one divides the game more... about what his value is.

"Someone who's within the game says he's a great player, then you talk to someone else, and they don't rate him at all."

It seems Cronulla are only interested in signing Woods at their price, which would be nowhere near the reported $900,000 contract he is currently on with the Bulldogs.

That has opened the door for other clubs to take an interest, but there's another catch.

"Cronulla have got an interest at the right price, the Warriors have asked the question, Newcastle is interested in him," Read said.

"The problem with Newcastle and the Warriors is that Woods wants to stay in Sydney. That's the priority for him and his wife.

"That then leaves Cronulla. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Roosters take a look at him, and if that's the case, then Jared Waerea-Hargreaves or Dylan Napa would have to move.

"Cronulla is the logical one, because they're looking for a front-rower... but it has to be at the right price."

Lol, the roosters are interested. We've got salary cap issues but they're fine, what a joke.

No doubt we want to move him on but that article is bs. The writer mentions a quite a few clubs, if Woods ends up at one of them the journo makes out he's a genius.

George Youssef: How serious are other clubs about Aaron Woods. As a Canterbury fan, I hope he ends up playing backyard footy in China

The Lurker: His star isn’t shining as it once was - and he is on big dollars thanks to Des and Raelene. They could struggle to offload him. A couple of clubs interested but they won’t fork out big money for him.

Why are we looking at offloading any more players?

Hill said we are fine with the cap and that was before Mbye went.

Unless one of the teams pay close to full freight we are mad if we get rid of Woods. He is not the resson we are 3-9 this season. He has been OK. Its not his fault Dib and co. paid too much for him.

We need a half outside Foran desperately. Frawley is a myth. Norman might be the answer. Worth a try.

The problem with woods other than his price tag is that our players are too dumb to play ad-lib football. Des has had them playing to a structure for so long that no one in the team backs up the ball carrier. But put Woods in any other team and he will win back his prized NSW Jersey.

Fuck him, let him rot in nsw cup

If he doesn’t pick up his game then make sure this contract is his last contract of his playing career and we destroy his career by making him play reserves.

I have had enough of over paid bludgers and we seem to have many.

This makes me laugh. Don’t put the blame on our attacking woes on the million dollar man no it’s the minimum wage guy who plays in the halves. He’s the one to blame. What a joke.

Sharks can have Woods at the price if they want. Give us Matt moylon and Katoa then you can have Woods at the right price, otherwise no deal.

I can understand us paying a bit of Mbyes freight because he has abousultey no value to us. But if another club wants Woods they will have to pay full frieght for him otherwise no deal. Its either the other club pays the full amount for him or they do a player swap for a maquee half otherwise fuck off no deal.

The club better not end up paying a fucking cent for Woods to play elsewhere. Not a cent. Full frieght or fuck off.
