Canterbury have no interest in Curtis Scott. Nor Josh Addo-Carr. There will be no Josh Reynolds' homecoming next year.

Jack Bird would have some appeal if Brisbane tipped in north of $500,000 for next year. There has been some interest in another high-profile English prop who could join countryman Luke Thompson at Belmore next year. And there is hope Kieran Foran will ink a new one-year extension.

Canterbury CEO Andrew Hill did his best to separate fact from fiction as the club finally announced a new front-of-jersey sponsor on Tuesday.

Laundy Hotels will join forces with the Bulldogs until the end of 2022, with Arthur Laundy, whose family own more than 60 hotels across NSW, including nearly a dozen spread out across the Canterbury area, admitting: "The area has been good to me, so it was an appropriate time to get mobile and do something for them''.

Since Trent Barrett was announced last week as the Dogs' new head coach for 2021 and beyond, his and Hill's phones have not stopped ringing with interest from potential signings.

For the record, Canterbury started with 17 interested coaches - Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett were not among them - before whittling down their shortlist to four and then ultimately going with Barrett. Hill said Penrith had been great and any roster management would be done with Barrett in his own time.

The Dogs are keen on another front-rower, playmaker and outside back, but will not rush to market and even wait to see what happens at rivals New Zealand and North Queensland once new coaches come in and make calls on their own rosters.

The supposed $3m war chest they have to splash on players next year was also a myth

"The figure that keeps getting bandied around about how much we have to spend, that was more accurate before Christmas,'' said Hill, as he celebrated the sponsorship deal at the Twin Willows Hotel in Bass Hill.

"Since then we've signed Luke Thompson, Nick Cotric, extended Ray Faitala-Mariner and Brandon Wakeham, so that figure keeps coming down.

"We're an easy target at the moment. We have a clear plan about where we're heading. We have a reasonable amount of money left to spend on good talent. We have to hold our nerve.

"There are a few clubs going through a transitional period of their own with new coaches coming in to make decisions. And we have to be ready to take advantage of those opportunities when they present themselves.

"There will be no scatter-gun approach from us. The players we've been linked to, we're talking less than half of those names we've actually talked to.''

Club great Terry Lamb would love to see Foran remain at the club in 2021 and said: "He's playing great for us, he has experience, he's been through a rough trot [with injuries], but I like him. He takes the line on, sets plays up, he's just a natural footballer.''

Lamb also liked Barrett, and even though he had not come through the Bulldogs ranks, pointed out he was close with club great Andrew Farrar.

There is young Hull KR prop Robbie Mulhern. I dare say they are referring to Walmsley though.

Yes. But jmk May do pretty well under Baz an a few new signings in a new team with a fresh game play, And whole new dynamic.. so if we wait, then he has a little time to show if he has what it takes or not, up too him what he does with that opportunity, like the rest of them I guess..!!

I hope Hill is just being coy in the media and playing his cards close to his chest when referring to how much cap space we have left.

If it's any less than $2 million left after releasing CHN and maybe letting Tolman and Elliott leave, then we're in trouble as we need more than just another three or four signings.

Obviously hooker and half are the biggest issues. Another prop would be nice but it should be the last priority.

They could go a few different directions. Spend decent money on a proven player like Clarke from Warrington who is as good as Hodgson.

They could go for cheaper options like Starling, Cotter, Kenny, Randall etc.. Or offer B.Smith or Grant a fortune and hope that works. Either way we need to sign at least one hooker.

Shouldn’t re sign tolman,I’d also be letting holland,Montoya,Remis smith, and a few other plodders go.we need a bit of a clean out.chn would have been on at least 500 k.

For me there’s no doubt about that mate:

The last two weeks have proven the club is on the move and if they say too much or move too quickly we’ll end up with buyers regret either by the wrong signings or paying too much for them. Hopefully we learned that lesson last time.

Nice to have the upper hand back :-).
