Cant think how getting in a 35 year old has been for a cameo appearance is going to help any club.
35 isn't old. He's useful if he's going to a club in A premiership window so I think he would be good in either roosters, Souths or Eels colours this year.

If we can nab him next year we should. So we can take a real shot at it with CHNs departure. Can't see it happening though because the Wolfpack will be back.

we need someone like SBW because he chases the dollars and has ambition. For this reason he won't ever have two bad games in a row.

Did you know he was born into an orphanage, and at the time of his saloon he was making $10000, a Day back in the late 1700s which equals to $200000 to $300000 a day in today’s money not bad aye for a bloke that was born into an orphanage huh.
After the Gem Theatre burnt down, the second time, he walked away a penniless hobo. He is reported to have died trying to hop on a freight train; but may have been murdered (no surprise). Interesting character.

Anyone wondering why they used Walzing Matilda ...this is all I could come up with.

"In one of the early episodes Al was asked by an Englishmen whether he came from the home land (or something like that). His answer was yes, via a stop in Australia. He said something disparaging about Australia that it was a shithole or something like that. This leads me to believe that he was a convict. This would make sense considering Australia was colonised in 1788 and convicts stopped being transported to Australia in 1868. Deadwood is set in 1870’s and the movie has a sign on the Main Street saying 1889. Al upon death one would assume was 60’s to 70’s so would be of perfect age to be a POHM. Waltzing Matilda is a song written by Australia’s most famous poet, Banjo Patterson in 1895 and is about a bloke who steals sheep and is chased by the police ultimately commuting suicide to avoid being arrested. It is a very famous and preferred song as the unofficial national anthem in Australia. So yes, it is a song out of time but is instantly recognisable. As an Australian, seeing the end of deadwood paying homage to an Englishmen who was an obvious rogue criminal made a hell of a lot of sense that he was an Australian convict and waltzing Matilda the perfect ending imho".
That would be correct for the show; but it was a piece of fiction, as Al never visited Australia.
On my Outback Qld tours, we stay at the North Gregory Hotel in Winton, where the song was first performed by Paterson. They have an old player piano and you can sing along in the same spot that it was first performed. However, the North Gregory was burned to the ground, twice (as was Swearengen's Gem Theatre), so the real spot where the song was performed, no longer exists. The daughter of the owner of Combo Station, where Paterson stayed, and which has the actual billabong, works at the Age of Dinosaurs in Winton.

Yes all fiction for the show. It is surmised by Deadwood fans that the writer of the show wanted viewers to think Al had been an English convict in Australia.

Banjo hadnt even written the song as yet when the Deadwood movie was set in 1889.

Swearengen died penniless and wasnt the rough diamond of Ian McShane's depiction.

He lured females to the Gem on the pretense of respectable jobs but when they arrived, by stagecoach, with no means of leaving, forced them into prostitution at the Gem.

Love the show and stayed in Deadwood when we toured US national parks.

I would be pissed off if I was a Roosters player that lost my spot in the 17 at the end of the season cause this clown just walks in and takes it and lose a chance to be in finals footy and maybe a premiership

Yeah I thought $BW was supposed to be "spiritual" - do charity work, not care about money. I always had hope that he grew wiser and might come back to repay the Dogs one day but it's obvious his true belief is still in $$$$ (just like his nickname Dollar Bill) and to further suck up to false prophets - billionaires like Politis. How's that spiritual ? LOL. If anyone needs help / charity it's definitely us - certainly not the top team in the friggin comp !. Dogs fans need to erase all memory of him ever being a Bulldog and the club should never invite him to any formal function ever again even for the 2004 premiership team. He's just a traitor - like an ex partner who cheated on you and you want nothing ever to do with them again. He can f..k off permanently. He helped f..k our club and I remember in 2013 when he came back to the Roosters he had a big game against us and scored 2 or 3 tries from memory and seemed to take extra pleasure in giving it to us - as if we had done something wrong to him - other way round though the f..kwit should remember

I am fucking fuming with that Sunny Bill Fuckwit C#@T, what a fucking hyde that fuckwit's got, After all we did for that bastard & her walked out on us Like a thief in the night & every time the dickhead played against us he gave it his all & would always score a couple of trys for his beloved Roosters who rubbed our noses in it, so we forgave him and gave him a life Membership & acknowledged him as one of our greatest players at our club, Now The Mercenary money Hungary piece of shit comes back striate to the Roosters, what a fucking joke How the hell could those cheating C%*TS possibly not be under the salary cap and still have money left to buy this disloyal, uneducated piece of garbage , and the fucking Joke of the NRL are bending over backwards & Jumping through hoopes to rushing him back to the Roosters so that the ass wipe can claim another premiership to his list of phony achievements just like his disgraceful farce of boxing matches. This Prick should not be playing Rugby League again after he broke his contract and walked away to join union instead it's our club that gets punished again Just like CHN these Dick with ears break the rules so we do the right thing according to NRL regulations Then the NRL reinstates them makes it look like the club is to blame and rewards them by letting them choose where they want to play and for how much money they demand, and our club is left holding the bag. When he rejoins the Roosters it will be the greatest & most blatant Salary Cap breach of all time with The Board of the NRL right behind it & so add him to the Multi Million dollar star studded team they already have and no need to have a whole season of competition just give them the trophy now and let them choke on it. Fuck NRL the salary cap has really evened up the Competition. WHAT A JOKE.
I think those paper bags filled with money by Politis we hear about aren't just going to Roosters players - they're also going to execs on the NRL. I wish some rich c..t (Dogs supporter - like our new sponsor) would buy out the game and take it over because at the moment that's exactly the way Politis is running the game but on the cheap. Do people really think it just happens to be a coincidence that the Roosters have the richest backing and they are the top team ?. Politis is obviously using that wealth as influence in some way.

Swearengen was found dead in the middle of a suburban Denver street on November 15, 1904, apparently of a massive head wound. Less than two months earlier, his twin brother Lemuel had been shot by unknown assailants and survived, although suspiciously not robbed.

Cases were never solved.

"The Sydney Morning Herald reports the NRL will likely settle on a figure of around $400,000.Given the contract Williams is set to sign will be just four to five months long – in actuality value will sit around the $150,000 range.
However, fans of rival clubs are up-in-arms over how the Roosters' premiership rosters could even fit in another name like Williams and his sizeable price-tag.
It's believed Williams' and his $150,000 price happens to be close to exactly the same cap space left by Cooper Cronk and Latrell Mitchell's departure from the club last season – and ARLC chairman Peter V'landys is on board."

Strange coincidence that the NRL value is exactly what Cap space the Chooks have :|

And then Vlandys said ''The thing about the clubs at the moment is that we're all united,'' V'landys said. ''We need to promote the game. And one thing Sonny Bill Williams does is promote the game.
''The more you promote the game, the better your revenue is. When you're all united and stick together, everyone benefits. Bringing a brand like Sonny Bill Williams into our game will attract substantially more attention, which improves your ratings, which improves your revenue.''

So not a strange coincidence, the NRL plainly wants the promotion and will stretch its own rules to get it.

Can't wait to see him have one last hurrah in the NRL, unlike many others I'm not butt hurt and holding onto something that happened over a decade ago.
He was forgiven like many others before him who deserted this club (Pay, Dymock, Smith, McCracken) when he publicly apologised many times now for the way he departed our club. As fans, we need to come to the realisation and accept that this is a business to players and nothing less. There's no loyalty. it's a business.
Having him join the Roosters this year and having absolutely no impact on them, and getting eliminated in the finals will be a hell of last hurrah (for us) IMO.

I must concur...

Remember the first back-ended contract ? No ? Let me remind. Gasnier Round 17, 2010. Just finished a stint in French rugby. He was allowed to rejoin the Dragons, that in all fairness based on his current worth, could not normally afford such a high profile player within their salary cap. He was allowed to be registered by the NRL for much less than his current worth, a mere $50,000. Somehow, (don't tell me how), but because he was only playing an estimated 40% of the season, that it was argued as the equivalent of $120,000 for the season (just that only $50k was literally in the books for that year). If this is all ok to you, (and if you are a Dragon fan, no doubt you will be vehemently ok with it), then hypothetically, you would also be ok with a team that signs up 5 superstars from various clubs who didn't make the finals, pay them $10k each, and argue the Gasnier Rule. Sound just as fair? (Hmmm - you're thinking about it now. No worries) What this extreme hypothetical example highlights is, this team that signed 5 new players for a very small percentage of the season, could not actually normally afford even one of those players. It highlights that based on their actual collective worth, by far would exceed the salary cap, and exceeding the salary cap is... yes, illegal. It provides proof that back-ended contracts are illegal. The fact that a 4-year contract, for eg, covers the players full worth for the 4 years is irrelevant as books are audited annually. If the first year of the deal is not a fair reflection of the players worth, then the entire 4-year contract, is illegal. These kinds of contracts are also illegal because they are pure fiction. They are never designed to reach the final year. Players never get to see out their back-ended contracts, because in those final years, the clubs could never afford that. It's only a scam to be under the cap in the initial years. Did the Dragons win the title fairly in 2010 ? Are teams that carry players on back-ended contracts, simply rorting the cap?

It wasn't the Roosters. That dickhead Khoder Nasser got in his ear and told him he can earn more playing Union in France. It was all about money. Dickhead couldn't even speak when he was interviewed by Weedler about it.[/QUOTE
