Newcastle Knights prop Jacob Saifiti has been hospitalised with a suspected broken leg after an alleged altercation with the brother of Kangaroos and NSW captain Boyd Cordner.

Police are understood to be investigating an incident involving Saifiti and Dane Cordner that occurred outside Newcastle’s Greenroof hotel in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the Newcastle Herald.

Herald league writer Barry Toohey reported that Saifiti was knocked-out cold by a punch thrown by Cordner, and then suffered a suspected fractured lower leg after falling awkwardly.

The 22-year-old was taken to hospital and will undergo surgery to determine how long he will be sidelined.

The Novocastrian only played eight games last season after two bouts of shoulder surgery.

The Herald was told that a large number of the knights players were attending a farewell celebration for former teammate Luke Yates, who is set to take up a contract in the English Super League. The team met with a number of Central players at the Delany Hotel, who were attending an engagement party.

It’s understood there was no drama until both parties kicked on at their third venue, the Greenroof Hotel.

Cordner and Saifiti were allegedly thrown out of the venue around 1.30am, after being involved in a physical altercation.

Knights officials are aware of the incident but are yet to comment.

lucky he's not a Bulldog or the NRL would be fining him for being silly while drinking.

I think the bulldogs used the reduced fine to buy a huge supply in case any of our players are accused of farting in public.

Does his broken leg make him immune from being charged for bringing the game into disrepute?

That's likely prison time under the one punch laws. Well done Dane Cordner.

Oh and suck shit Knoughts. Pity it wasn't Klemmer.

The articles I've read dont indicate "1 punch". Reports indicate a fight he lost. Newcastle are talking disciplinary action so sounds like saifiti started it. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Surprised they didn't try and spin the line that he is the team mate of ex- bulldog David Klemmer. ;)

NRL toothless tiger will do little to nothing. Normally these type of things are pretty much hidden in good old Newcastle......

I'm over the "if it was the Bulldogs" card.... let's move on already
While I agree to a point. Bulldog fans have a strong argument to seek a response from the NRL which is in line with what the Bulldogs copped for the Mad Monday witch hunt. We have every right to call the media and the NRL on the disparity
