Newcastle Knights sign Edrick Lee to boost outside backs
  • Lee only moved to the Shire last season, spending most of his time in the NSW Cup with Newtown Jets, only boasting 16 NRL games since his arrival.

Despite the brief tenure, Lee has been rewarded with more playing time recently, having started in their last 11 games.

"Edrick is an exciting player with size, height and speed. He will be a great addition, not only to our backline but to our playing group," Knights football manager Darren Mooney said.

"He's a talent with experience and a wealth of potential.

"Our squad has a great mix of youth and experience across every position so not only will he offer plenty on the field, he adds more depth to what is becoming a very competitive roster next season.

The signing creates a twist in the potential signing of Blake Ferguson who is reportedly showing interest in joining his former Roosters teammates on the Hunter in search of a long-term deal, which the Roosters are unwilling to offer.

It also casts doubt over the future of off-contract winger Ken Sio who has endured an up and down season while covering for the injured Tautau Moga out wide.

There have also been suggestions the club would lure Tigers prop Tim Grant before the June 30 deadline but talks have died down and Brown is still holding hope a marquee front-rower will come onto the market.

That was random. Thought they had Ferguson signed and sealed. Guess he'll have to take another under the table paperbag deal from uncle nicky

Him and Moga to fight it out for the spot.
Moga will be lucky to get back on the field after all the knee injuries he’s had. I’m sure Lee would start otherwise why would he leave the Sharks just after he has become a starter? It’s a silly move on his part as he is in great form and rumours were that the Sharks were ready to move one Feki instead of not re-signing him

Moga, poor guy. Same thing happened to the Stanley bros from memory. He'll be very lucky to get back on the field.

Nah, We're the only stooges dumb enough to sign a broken, crippled grandpa

Good signing for what he would cost..

The sort of player we should be looking at recruiting.. cheap, decent player, plus has heap of potential..
