Newcastle Knights sign Edrick Lee to boost outside backs
- Lee only moved to the Shire last season, spending most of his time in the NSW Cup with Newtown Jets, only boasting 16 NRL games since his arrival.
Despite the brief tenure, Lee has been rewarded with more playing time recently, having started in their last 11 games.
"Edrick is an exciting player with size, height and speed. He will be a great addition, not only to our backline but to our playing group," Knights football manager Darren Mooney said.
"He's a talent with experience and a wealth of potential.
"Our squad has a great mix of youth and experience across every position so not only will he offer plenty on the field, he adds more depth to what is becoming a very competitive roster next season.
The signing creates a twist in the potential signing of Blake Ferguson who is reportedly showing interest in joining his former Roosters teammates on the Hunter in search of a long-term deal, which the Roosters are unwilling to offer.
It also casts doubt over the future of off-contract winger Ken Sio who has endured an up and down season while covering for the injured Tautau Moga out wide.
There have also been suggestions the club would lure Tigers prop Tim Grant before the June 30 deadline but talks have died down and Brown is still holding hope a marquee front-rower will come onto the market.
