At a cut throat price for one year, then yes.
Whatever happens with Cam Smith, I expect both Grant and Brandon Smith to stay.
Grant to either start at hooker or rotate with Cam Smith and Brandon to play Lock which will push Dale to Front Row.
Brandon can easily play a very similar role to Victor Radly at the Roosters. This will give the Storm another ball playing option in the middle of the park. Watch this space (IMO).
Logically;
BSmith has stated that he wants to play hooker for the Kiwis, so much better if he plays hooker for an NRL team.
BSmith won't be happy with getting paid "lock money" instead of "hooker money".
Melbourne get away with paying their players less (than they could/would earn at other clubs) because of the Bellamy factor, that is gone next year.
If he stays BSmith would be getting "Melbourne lock money" instead of another club's "hooker money", that's hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
BSmith would be pretty pissed off if Melbourne give the hookers job (and the money) to Grant when it was promised to him as an enticement to sign the usual undervalued Melbourne contract.
Even Melbourne are going to have to pay Grant somewhere close to his market value (remember Bellamy is leaving), which leaves even less for BSmith.
BSmith staying with Melbourne might be good for Melbourne but it's sure as hell is not good for BSmith.
Unless Grant goes elsewhere........
