Jeremiah Nanai is quite possibly the hottest commodity in the NRL right now.
He is only 19-years-old and has already achieved some amazing feats such as debuting for and winning a State of Origin series with Queensland, representing Australia at the Rugby League World Cup and scoring 17 tries in 2022 and finishing the season as the North Queensland Cowboys top try scorer.
The second rower is also eligible to negotiate with rival clubs for 2024 as his current contract will be up at the end of next year.
North Queensland will be hoping to keep their prodigy at the club but Nanai is already receiving offers, with one club believed to be offering him a life-changing amount of money.
A Sydney-based club has reportedly offered Nanai a deal worth $4.2 million over five years according to The Courier Mail’s Peter Badel.
If this is true it is unlikely any other club including the Cowboys would be able to match this deal and the decision will come down to whether Nanai would prefer the lucrative move to Sydney or his current life in North Queensland.
Cowboys football boss Michael Luck recently spoke to Badel and revealed that the club will not commence contract extension talks with Nanai until he returns from the World Cup.
We know there will be interest and we would like to think as soon as he comes back home we can begin discussions again about securing him long-term,” Luck said.
“We understand other clubs will come in with big offers, but we would love him to see out his career here.
“We’re confident our offer will be competitive regardless of what other clubs are offering and we’d like to think at this stage of Jeremiah’s career he is confident in our club and the direction we’re heading in.”
Nanai has not been selected for the Australian side that will take on Samoa in the World Cup final tomorrow but will certainly be present at Old Trafford to cheer on his teammates as the Kangaroos look to retain their title of Rugby League world champions, an honour they have held since 2013.
