Figure seems low for Maloney and shows how much of a bargain the sharks got.

Des didn't rate him.
Can you imagine the conversations if he played for us:

Des - James I need you to play the high percentages
Maloney - Ohhhh if I see a chance I'll give it a crack
Des - We need to hold onto the ball, no errors or turnovers
Maloney - Ohhh but we need a few tricks sometimes to score some points.
Des - James, no fancy stuff, we play perfect football then we win by 2
Maloney - But boss got this great play we practiced yesterday in training, called it the bbq
Des - No !!! On the 4th it goes to Tolman. You'll get your chance on the last with a crossfield bomb.
Maloney - I'm outta here, can't take this shit anymore
Des - That's fine James, I rate James G and Moses as better halfbacks than you anyway.
Maloney - How do you figure that?
Des - They follow orders !!!!

The Panthers got the better deal out of that.

The funny thing about Maloney is his impact on the clubs defence. It was explained that he is basically the worst defender in the comp based on stats and that means the Pennies poor defence would get poorer and therefore he was a bad signing. Sounds like another expert using stats alone to prove a point. I took the liberty of checking his impact on the 3 clubs he played GF's with in regards to their defence. It just happens that all three clubs defence improved dramatically after his arrival which doesn't prove everything but it is pretty strong evidence in Maloneys favor.
