I hope Topgun lives up to the trailer and hype..
"Top Gun" is the first movie I ever watched at the cinemas... loved it... but to do a sequel now 30+ years after the original is just desperate

Possibly but the trailers look awesome which is why I hope it lives up to the hype.

It's Hollywood, they have run out of ideas so they keep remake/reboot movies and shows from the 80's/90's instead of coming up with something worthwhile. It is easy for them to already take an established IP and use it.

Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, Star Wars, Star Trek, Terminator, X-Files, Tron, Jurassic Park, The Godfather (DON'T WASTE GOOD MONEY ON "THE GODFATHER CODA: THE DEATH OF MICHAEL CORLEONE"!), Rocky, First Blood, Wall Street etc.

they ruin everything

I have to admit it does look brutal. But I really hate the woke decisions in some of the casting like race swapping cat woman and especially jim Gordon. Jim Gordon is white. Leave it alone. We all know it would be an issue like it always is if a black is white washed. Anyways, also Pattinson came out saying some real veganistic (gay) things like. Working out and getting bud for the role of Batman is problematic. How’s it problematic??!?? You’re playing a fictional character thats at literal peak human physical conditioning. Batman ain’t taking on grown ass men with a vegan diet and lacking bone density ffs. I hate how his Bruce Wayne is an emo kid lol. Anyways I’m willing to accept all that garbage iffffffff they keep him brutal and they don’t have him beat by some random strong woman just coz you know, woman.
Part of it might be diversification, but honestly, does the ethnic background of Jim Gordon or Selina Kyle actually matter? Being caucasian doesn't really affect the character imo.

No it doesn’t. They make it “matter” by changing for muh representations. If it doesn’t matter then leave the characters alone in the established genders and race and now sexual orientation lol. Just leave it the fk alone. Be consistent though if they made already established black characters, we’d all be calling it white washing and a form of oppression to black actors having their jobs taken off them from evil whites.

Maybe, but it would be weird having a white guy play Black Panther

it is all simply about making money and IPs with built in fans and viewers which you purchase and repackage with today's SJW, diversity agenda and the second you're not falling over yourself with praise, you are toxic, sexist, racist, misogynist, xenophobic, transphobic etc.

William Randolph Hearst waged a campaign to stop "Citizen Kane" from being released... the filmmakers on "Ben Hur" could spend what they wanted, make what they wanted (eg. Gore Vidal wrote in a gay subplot between Ben Hur and Messala)... "The Godfather" had to remove "mafia" references from the script due to the pressure being exerted by the Italian American Anti-Defamation League which ironically was being run by a Mafia boss... "Scarface" was originally given an X rating due to the violence which would have killed the movie etc.

money aside, I just don't understand why Hollywood has so willingly allowed itself to be pushed into such formulaic, centric, safe mediocrity

there is nothing wrong in hiring the best actor or actress for a role regardless of the person's ethnicity (eg. Nick Fury is originally white but hiring Samuel L. Jackson makes perfect sense)

but that doesn't make sense with historical characters whose ethnicity we know --> eg. hiring black actors for the sake of diversity to play historically white people such as Achilles of "The Iliad" or Anne Boleyn is stupid... and if it isn't a problem, why do people criticise Hollywood's prior white washing of characters (eg. John Wayne starring as Genghis Khan)

what's worse is approaching an artistic project like a movie or TV show with an artificial laundry list of things it must have as to characters of colour, female characters, alternative lifestyles etc... seriously, who had ever heard of the term "pan-sexual" before the anthology Star Wars movie "Solo" and the re-writing of the Lando character to being sexually attracted to a robot droid

See what I mean. I agree. But it’s also weird to me established white characters get the ok to get black washed and isn’t weird nor a big deal lol. God forbid it happens the other way around. Like making superman black or 007. If you find making black panther white weird then if you’re not a hypocrite you’d also find established characters changing their races and/genders to be weird too. Not just blacks spontaneously being written white

Wtf. Lucky I did not touch that movie. I just couldn’t do it to myself anymore. After force awakens I gave up on star wars and after episode 8 I buried Star Wars deep deep down. I didn’t even have an ounce of care for episode 9 coming out lol. And luckily I didn’t after what I heard happens in it

yeah, I figure George Lucas is doing his best Marlon Brando impression following the scuttling of his once premier movie franchise by Disney

sometimes a change can really work... for example, the original Starbuck in "Battlestar Galactica" was a guy but in the remake TV show (very underrated IMO) was played by Katee Sackhoff... and it was great

Black Panther being white would be weird because him being black is part of the character, it's a key characteristic.

There's nothing intrinsically white about Selina Kyle or Jim Gordon. I don't think it's brave, or necessary for quotas - I just don't think it matters.

I don't mind Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman... in truth, I think it is good casting... Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon is fine, too... he is a good actor AND if I didn't have an issue with him starring as Felix Leiter in "Casino Royale" which previously was a white role, I don't have an issue here

the problem is that it seems that they are only changing character ethnicities, races, genders etc. for the sake of being able to pat themselves on the back for a job well done... for example, James Bond is Scottish and Scotland is what 95% white... how does Idris Elba now be in the frame to act as James Bond? a black Superman? a Latino Spiderman? hell, there was talk about re-doing "The Lord of the Flies" as an all girls tale

Yeah I get the self congratulatory thing being annoying but if we just put that to the side for the sake of conversation: what are James Bond's key characteristics? Are any of them exclusively white?

We aren't talking about them making him a Mexican, transgendered, pansexual who identifies as a sea urchin.

I guess one thing is Bond is of Scottish heritage. But then again, one doesn't necessarily have to be white to be Scottish (although it would be unusual not to be)...

Isn't his mother French or something?
