The mother of Broncos prop Payne Haas has been jailed over a violent altercation outside a Gold Coast Casino.
Uiatu “Joan” Taufua, 46, was sentenced to nine months in jail for punching and spitting at security staff at the Star Casino in May this year.

She pleaded guilty at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday to serious assault offences and contravening police directives.

Her sentence will be suspended on 1 October meaning she will only serve one month behind bars.

It’s not the first time the mother of nine has been in trouble with the law.

In 2019, she attacked a delivery driver for cutting her off in the drive-through of a Gold Coast McDonald’s, leaving him with a fractured cheekbone, a hole in his lip and a deviated nose.

Ms Taufua and two of her children followed their victim into a loading dock where they proceeded to verbally and physically abuse him, calling him a “f***ing dog”.

The court heard at the time the driver was punched and kneed to the head while Ms Taufua held him in place.

Haas debuted for the Broncos in 2018 and has played for NSW in the State of Origin as well as representing Australia at an international level.

When Ms Taufua appeared in court in 2019 she faced media outside wearing a blue State of Origin scarf.

“Go the Blues,” she told reporters.

She should be locked up for a long time. Anger problems seem to run in the family. Payne going 'psycho' when Albert Kelly stood in his shoes.

With that form I'm guessing the rorters will be offering her a contract to replace Lodge when he leaves.

gee trouble cuts deep in the family...

Brisbane young gun Payne Haas as found himself in hot water once again, with the NRL integrity unit set to investigate two driving offences related to the Broncos forward.

According to the Courier-Mail, the Broncos have spoken to the NRL integrity unit regarding Haas' latest off-field indiscretion, after he attended an Ipswich court on Friday.

Haas is currently sidelined due to a suspension handed down from the Broncos, as he was hit with a four-game ban and a $20,000 fine for failing to comply with the integrity unit.

This incident reportedly saw Haas charged with unlicensed driving, and also using a mobile phone while driving.

The alleged offence occurred on March 1, just two weeks after Haas was suspended and stood down for his previous off-field incidents.

Police believe Haas wasn't directly involved in the previous incidents, although the Broncos punished him as he failed to uphold the club's values when providing little detail and failing to fully comply with the NRL integrity unit last month.

The Courier-Mail understand Haas' suspension may be extended by the club, with his current ban set to end next weekend, allowing him to face Wests Tigers on April 11.

Haas fronted court on Friday, but the case has been adjourned until April 15.

Walters fronted the media on Monday alongside Haas after the 21-year-old was slapped with a three-game suspension and $50,000 fine for a foul-mouthed spray directed at police on January 16.

Haas attended Tweed Heads Local Court last Thursday and was sentenced to a two-year good behaviour bond. His behaviour saw him initially charged with using offensive language and two counts of intimidating police before prosecutors dropped one charge of intimidating police after he plead guilty to the other charges.

Is Haas, including all his personal and family problems, worth all the hassles to be heaped on the Bulldogs by the DT and Fox media?

Doubtful.

Joan Taufua sounds like a weapon

maybe we could get her and Payne in a package deal. Reckon she’d add some punch off the bench

I hope we don’t run background checks on all of our players family or we might struggle to field a squad. Will Hopoate wasn’t a bad bloke considering his family was he. I’m not for this mother hen approach. We are a football team. Haas is one of the best props in the game and can potentially be the best, we need a top line prop

Joan is probably a starting prop alongside Payne.

A Bulldog first: mother and son frontrow.

Not sure she’d have the stamina for the starting gig. But then again, 9 kids..?
Nice to speak civilly Vibe :grinning:
If there's anything I post that you disagree with, let's ask instead of accuse :grinning:

That woman she attacked and broke 3 of her teeth reckons she's a beast herself so probably hold her own in our F/R lol.
