Mitchell Woods

I feel like we need The Kennel up on the mega screen at games, and we'll just let the team settle in for 10 minutes or so before creating threads blasting players, then show them on the big screen

It's a surefire way to winning games

Not sure of everyone’s opinion, but the Mitch Woods hype is just that, hype. He looks average in this u19s origin game. A lot of much better players than him in this game.

Hope I’m wrong long term
You gotta love people making assessments on players after watching only 30mins of game time with a team he's probably had three training sessions with. Never mind what Gus or Ciro who have watched just about every minute of them for three years think.

Woods is years off. That's fine because he is 19yrs old. Let the young fella play against men in NSW cups for a couple of years and develop physically without rushing him into first grade
Agree. He will make it but still at least two years away. That's why we don't have to worry about what happens to Burton and Galvin for a while yet.

It's The Kennel, we come for the passion and stay for the meltdowns.

I agree with others pointing out that you can't judge too much from the trail. What I would say is that it shows how special Galvin might be seeing what he's doing in first grade at the same age.
This exactly. 30 odd nrl games and hasn’t looked out of place. All be it 1 year older. But woods won’t even have 30 off reserve grade games by the same age.

Not shitting on woods. He is a phenomenal prospect. And not puffing up galvin either. But yeh. Crazy to think we have 2 of the best halves prospects under 20. I haven’t included katoa because he is 21 and an outright first grader. And another Penrith product too. Crazy to think.

We promoted Averillo at a pretty early age. If I recall correctly he skipped reserve grade and jumped from Flegg to NRL because we were a bit desperate. I think to some extent it set him back in visible ways. If he'd been nurtured through reserves, perhaps he'd have been less gun shy of contact.

Hopefully when we Blood Woods it's because he's kicking the door down to get into the NRL team rather than gring dragged up because we've got an injury crisis.

Funny thing is Deadren is having arguably his best season. He was cut by the broncos 4 years ago. Basically they saw no future in him and didn’t renew him. He is only 24……… some kids are ready at 17 or 18, Folau, suali’i, others don’t mature until much later especially halves. I mentioned it earlier. Cronk didn’t start in his first 2 years. He was 23 when he took over the #7. Still played 370 odd nrl games with 6 premierships (all be it minus 2 due to salary cap breaches). Thurston was 22 before he started in the halves full time. And these are 2 of the best in history. John’s was 20. His 1st season was off the bench and he is an immortal.

I think the pressure on this kid is undue. And what Katoa and Galvin have done is mind boggling. 3 and 2 years into their nrl careers. Woods will get there. No need to rush him.

Galvin if coached by Bennett would have been knocking down the door for rep footy like Katoa at a younger age. Both are incredibly mature at such young ages.

Woods is behind them both obviously but will get his chance over the next few years. It would surprise me if he doesn’t end up having a similar career to the other two.

Galvin was meant to be in NSW camp (not squad) this year but they pulled the plug because of all the media.

I feel he will get a go like Galvin has, off the bench a few times next year to get a feel for the top grade, understand how much faster it is, and go back to reggies to work on his game. I'm glad we can do this like we used to. I think people forget that's exactly how we developed Thurston, he wasn't an overnight sensation, but the result of a few reggies of lower grades with some bench spots until he was ready, and then snapped up by the Cowboys. Barba was similar. And nearly every forward we had in the 00's was similar.

worth having a look at mitchell woods stats - in a well beaten side
from last nights game in nsw cup
