For some reason, I don't get a good feeling about us landing Brandon Smith. The options are pretty thin if we do miss.

Mitch Kenny looks to be a solid hooker who has played a decent amount of footy with Burton who will be the 6 next year. A spine of Allan, Burton, Flanagan and Kenny I feel can be successful. What's everyone else thinking?

It seems like a sideways move and another stop gap measure for mine.

This is s classic example of where we need to develop such a player in a specialist position and bring him through the ranks.
How, I hear you ask?

I would run a so called Hooker Boot Camp. No, not Adam Elliot style Boot Camp, I mean get an ex specialist Hooker, shit I'd go as far as employing Cam Smith for example to run these camps to nurture and train, then put forward who he considers worthy of a train on contract at Hooker who he would then continue to stick with these potential players for a few years and get them to study the in's and out's of the position until they reach the NRL.

The same for halback, 5/8 and fullback.

U reckon Payten will let him go? They also got Cotter
I was pissed we missed out on Robson last time he went around.
Robson is starting 9 and contracted until 23...Cotter looks to be outside. Robson does seem unlikely.

Yeah i know..thats why i dont think Payten would let him leave.
Seemed Robson was on the outer last year too but new coach makes alot of difference i guess.

I reckon Kenny is pretty average. We should be aiming higher.

I don't see how we make the eight unless we sign a top/good hooker around the level as someone like Brandon Smith. If it isn't Smith (at this stage) then whoever we sign is on potential (or simply not good enough, if there is not enough difference between JMK and whoever is being tossed up, what's going to change?) and unless they get to similar heights I don't think we'll be the team results wise we want to be. Hooker is the second most important position on the field (if not the most important) and you can see for yourself what Koroisau did for the Panthers, 9th -> 1st (not really 1st, but 1st on the ladder), there were obviously other factors but this was the most important one imo. We're tipped to not have a good season (I can go with 11th-12th at best, we're tipped to finish much worse), we need a big signing at hooker for next year.

No doubt a team in SE QLD would be favourite to get Smith, with his family connections. He's also a bit of a lair and fan-favourite, which would make the one-town-team Broncos pretty attractive to him.

Our best shot to get him IMO is to play well and show a positive attacking style in the early rounds. After all the positive talk about Baz, a really good start will get a lot of good players looking at us. It's a bit of a long shot but if we pull off a great start, our options will really expand.

Mentioned this late last year thinking that Barrett would have brought him over at the start of pre season. He's a little worker, but i haven't seen enough of him to know if he's got great attacking ability

Named at lock for their trial this weekend. Robson at 9 and Granville 14

I saw that.. It shows that Payten plans to find a way to play both decent minutes and it's unlikely either Robson or Cotter will leave anytime soon.
