JJ delusional and out of step with the obvious improvement in our play and the all round positive vibes coming from the team and supporters at the way they have improved since Potter came on board.
He'd want to snap out of it pretty smartly and start publicly acknowledging Potter as a good move for the team!
On topic, JJ has mentioned a few times in the presser that the reason we’re playing well is down to the spine having some cohesiveness, clearly avoiding to attribute any credit to Potter - But, highlighting this to JJ:
1.Barrett had 1.5 seasons to develop “cohesiveness” with mostly the same halves available to him and couldn’t find the mark. Potter found it in 2 weeks.
2.He rotated the halves like circus monkeys during that time, Potter has maintained Burto/Flanno, has not altered the combination.
3.He had a pre-season and approx 10 rounds to find a foil for Burton, couldn’t find one. Potter’s got Flanno taking more responsibility with ball in hand and kicking, not to mention, JMK is suddenly making elite plays where defenders need to adjust to his threat.
4.It was clear TB wanted to run every play through the hands of Burton or JJ basically rendering 50% of the spine useless in his eyes, this made us very predictable. Potter allows individuals to play to their strengths and “eyes up footy”.
5. After attempts at wing, centre and the halves, not once did he try Averillo in his preferred no.1 jersey - this almost resulted in Avo being discarded to NSW cup for all eternity.
6. JJ is not being used as a link man, he’s doing what he does best, make hard yards and tackle everything that moves.
7.Possibly the most important observation, the players were led to believe they were “doing enough” by TB, excuses were made for them - Potter has never excused a loss, he’s been big on focusing on NRL level performances and what is expected from professional athletes - he’s saying they are capable and still developing, this ensures they remain grounded but laced with a level of positivity.
