Wests Tigers officials will hold a series of crisis meetings over the next 48 hours that could see Michael Maguire sacked as coach of the embattled club.

Fed-up Tigers officials have ordered an internal review after the club’s finals hopes were all but buried in Sunday’s humiliating ANZAC Day demolition at the hands of Manly at Bankwest Stadium.

The club is now trying to determine whether Maguire will continue as coach or if they would be better parachuting the likes of John Morris or Shane Flanagan into the hot seat after their sixth loss from seven games to open the season.

It appears the only thing now saving Maguire from the axe is the embarrassment some club powerbrokers want to avoid by parting ways with their fifth coach in nine years.

There’s a feeling inside the club that the Tigers have a better and more balanced roster than they did in 2020, yet they are going backwards at a rate of knots. One of the questions set to be asked in the coming days is why perceived improvements in the roster aren’t being met with improvements in performance.

The Herald can reveal Maguire has a clause in his recently inked two-year extension that will allow the club to part ways with him without much of a financial impact on the club. It’s understood there is a cap on a potential pay-out should the Tigers terminate Maguire’s deal.
Sunday’s loss saw this current crop of Tigers become the worst defensive team in the club’s history through seven rounds, not to mention the worst in the NRL for points conceded this year.
The Tigers have gone from ninth in Maguire’s first year in charge to 11th last year. They are now equal last with Brisbane and the Bulldogs after seven rounds.

Fuck I hope Shane Flanagan gets the job. Then he'll be guaranteed to take Kyle off our hands two years early. This also ensures the Tigers remain a bottom 8 team.. It's win/win..
As long as we don't get their half back as part of a swap deal...

Nofoaluma??
I'd gladly take any of: Laurie, Noafaluma, Luciano, Twal, Simpkin, Stefan and Garner for starters and they have some good juniors like Madden etc.

The rest of their roster has holes, especially in the halves... As Spoonman said, Madges relentless, hard ass style of tearing the players a new asshole every week has clearly worn thin on an average squad and they've tuned him out.

While I'm not sure exactly how big their junior nursery is I think it's fairly decent given that they've got a pretty good football following and participation levels from the former Magpies stomping grounds, and Balmain would probably have a decent area too. So you'd think their nursery would bring them some success. The spending they've done on their roster has at times been phenomenally bad. And while they've changed coaches a lot, one of those coaches wanted out himself. But the players wouldn't benefit from having to learn new systems frequently. So I'd assume if this report of them looking to oust Madge is true that in part it's to shift the blame away from the administration of the club in order to keep their jobs safe.

What terrible reporting. Standards these days have dropped when people will sensationalise any story. How on earth can the Tigers finals hopes be over in round 7 when they are 2 games away from 8th? That’s not to mention how HIA’s and the origin period can really upset a team’s momentum. The Tigers just need to show more consistency and find how to get the best out of their expensive big name players. They really aren’t getting much value out of Mbye, Brooks & J Leilua at the moment.
