MATT Scott has officially been ruled out for the rest of the NRL season, after the Cowboys confirmed he tore his ACL in Friday’s win over the Broncos.

The veteran forward will undergo surgery on his knee following the devastating injury, suffered in the second half of the derby clash.

It is a big blow for the Cowboys who already lack depth in the their forward pack.

Scott has been one of the best players for the opening two rounds but will now be sidelined until next year.

Cowboys coach Paul Green said in a statement that the forward was “devastated”.

“It’s obviously a huge blow for Matt and he’s understandably devastated,” Green said.

“He’ll have surgery then start his rehab, and knowing the type of player and person he is, he’ll approach his recovery in the same dedicated way he trains and plays … with 100 per cent commitment.”

The Cowboys have also lost winger Antonio Winterstein (arm) for up to six weeks while fullback Lachlan Coote (calf) will miss “several weeks”.

This opens the door for Kalyn Ponga and Javid Bowen to come into the backline.

Green will name his 21-man squad on Tuesday for Saturday’s clash with Manly.

No scott. No inglis.
NSW origin hopes looking good.

Not just end of season, could be end of career. Off contract the end of this year and was looking at his options.

According to NRL360 and Matty Johns.

Unlike NSW, Queensland have depth. Most of the time there second or third string player is better than NSW's best player in that position.

NSW's best half would be QLDs 7th or 8th pick.

We're talking about Matt Scott, a consistent and good player. The good teams won't toss out one of their best players. They're loyal. That's what makes them so good. This is just a setback. Look at Billy Slater.

QLD depth isn't really that supperior to NSW . Once Thurston, Smith, Cronk and Inglis retire NSW are gonna win a couple of series back to back.

NSW have already got some great young players that will probably dominate the Kangaroos team in years to come

Tom Trbojevic (will be the best FB in the world )

James Tedesco ( Best FB in the NRL)

Jack Bird ( Will be a champion centre)

David Klemmer ( will be the best prop in the game once Des leaves)

Jake Trbojevic
Josh Jackson
Boyd Cordner
Tyson Frizzell
Andrew Fifita
Wade Graham
Shanon Boyd
Aaron Woods
Matt Moylan

NSW depth will probably go back to what it was like in the 90s......

Nope. QLD have depth and talent through the spine but NSW 2nd and 3rd forward packs are still so quality, great emerging depth through the back 5, just a matter of the 7 and 9 really
