I just want to see a club website announcement that says "Burton released by Panthers for 2021"

I don't care about JAC or any other signing for 2021....those other signings can wait until 2022. If Burton comes early, then we all know we're in for a half decent season with a genuine crack at finals footy.

Burton is defiantly the biggest domino we need to fall for 21. We aren't winning the comp next year so having Flange and Burton get a year together with no pressure will be massive for the club to hit the ground running in 2022.

Our season hinges upon it. Also helps our progression towards a top four finish in coming years. You’d think with Averillo, Flanno, Burton and Cotric with three years playing together were a genuine crack at the title.

Aloiai, Saab, Fonua-Blake and Sualli have all been granted an early release despite signing for 22. Barrett constantly mentions that they still have a roster spot in 21 for Burton and are hopeful of getting him over early so there's every chance Burton comes over early. If not, he'll be worth waiting til 22 for.

I will be curious to see how well Ivan goes without Gus developing his squad and the likes of Barrett as an assistant coach
Well in 2019 without Barrett Cleary had his penny panthers finish 10th 46% win/loss ratio.....2020 with Barrett Minor Premiers a whopping 89% win/loss ratio. To me Cleary as a coach is a fraud and a myth. Without Barrett's influence the panthers will struggle next year.

Exactly and Aloiai and AFB were part of the 17. Burton is not. Based on Penrith's comments last week, I think they will definitely release him. We're just waiting to see who blinks first. They probably want us to take Mansour or Whare off their hands and back off Chricton and Leniu whereas we probably just want to pay $50K compensation and be done with it.

Penrith's 2020 season reminded me a lot of our 2012 season where a lot of things went right and things just fell into place but they failed to cash in the GF. I doubt they reach that height again next year.

Not to mention the weaker opposition they faced. Roosters, Canberra and Souths all had major injury concerns to key players while Penrith were injury free pretty much all year.

I agree, I can't see them reaching the same heights as this year. In fact I feel we might start seeing cracks form in the Panthers foundation between Cleary and his players now that Barrett isn't there to act as a buffer. Cleary must have been born under a lucky star.....how many times can a coach be fired then rehired is beyond me :grinning: I know, I know Sticky Ricky is another example :grinning:

Except Burton isn't on 100s of thousands like the other guys so Penrith aren't exactly getting cap space if they let him go.

Totally agree,I also see the father/son thing causing issues when Penrith not traveling so well.
No doubt the old favourite line will be heard behind the scenes.
Its a recipe for a disaster.

I agree, imagine being a fly on the wall when the shit hits the fan. :grinning: Then again “If you’re not yelling at your kids, you aren’t spending enough time with them.” :grinning:

I feel like panthers would value a roster spot, and transfer fee, but they are also playing games trying to toy with our preseason so they won’t release him until maybe into the next season if at all.

Panthers been complaining that they have wasted their time and effort by keeping players, paying and training them and other clubs just pinch them. So what are they going to do with burton now? Waste more time and effort and pay and train him for another year knowing hes going to leave them anyway. Lol

I'm sure this has been suggested elsewhere but if we don't get Burton for next year, I wonder if Widdop would be a good stop gap. He's a good buy at 500k a year if he was fit and willing to sign a short term deal.

Burtons manager should be all over this, 6% of Dogs contract is much more appealing than his 21 Panthers deal
