I’ve said it before put Averillo back at 7 and Burton plays a lot better, Flanagan and wakeham have failed.
Anyone that knows how to play league will tell you that the halves need room to be effective,
Burton and even flanoget the ball late.
Well, yourself, LeeroyJenkins Mutt Dafty and I said the same thing. Ok Avo isn't nowhere being great but at least he kind of complimented Burton.

We have nothing to lose, literally nothing this year and 10+ players will be booted. Play Burton next to Avo and try ZDC starting hooker.

I agree, at the moment we are playing in slow motion and by the time anyone gets the ball the defenders are in there face.

Jake is still out best half and I'm prepared to die on this hill lol.

What sort of logic is this? Why would Panthers break up a Premiership winning and SOO halves pairing for a kid that might or might not be better? Lol

Off ffs , were they a premiership pairing prior to them winning it last year ?

You realise Burton was in there system for a few years , yeah ?

You also realise he was a 5/8th coming through the ranks , yeah ?

You’re not real sharp are you

You literally make no sense

Burton was and always wanted to play 5/8 that’s his preferred position and with a good half he would excel.

Realistically, by round 10 next year with Mahoney feeding him will show if he is a half or just a centre with a big, inaccurate boot.

Yep, that's why the club shouldn't jump the gun and extended before knowing.

I watched our game against the Knoughts with some old rugby union mates and during the game they talked a lot about “the guy with the headgear” (I thought Ponga). But their narrative didn’t fit, “runs hard”, “good lines”, “knows the angles”, “instinctive”, “tackles well”, “long kicks, pretty accurate”, “takes the line on”, “draws defenders” “crisp well timed passes”……. hello, that‘s not Ponga.

They were talking about Burton, of everyone on the field he impressed them and they don’t impress easily, particularly when it comes to league players. It made me realise that I was expecting more from him than I should. They had no pre conceived idea that he should be winning the game all on his own, they could see that he was a natural footballer with a quality player skill set and that’s what they picked up on.

Always a Bulldog
Don't worry.
Union guys like that are as bad as picking talent as Des Hasler is.

Nah he is a running half and a good one. We just need a proper half back, burton can't do that stuff

Only one that looks dangerous with the ball.
Jake was the only one that was a genuine running threat, he at times at least tried to play at pace and engaged the line to create space for his outside men and that's just something no one else is really doing. Sure he didn't take the right option (no one does) enough and sort of got stuck playing through the motions but there were at least some positive signs and something we could work off. Instead we stupidly dropped him 2 games in, shattered what was left of his confidence and have since failed to send out a halves combination that has looked anywhere near as good.

Please note, if you want to make a deal with this user, that it is blocked.
Bah needs to get Burton on the vodka and orange drinks.

I don't think we should jump anytime soon to extend him without proper evaluation, coaching and a legit partner. The only issue is being pressured too come November, I'm sick of seeing the club being duded by player contracts and in Burton's case it could go either way.

We won't know if he's worth keeping until he's got a legit partner and proper coaching and that won't happen until next season.
Yep I made this comment about a month ago. I said that the club has an important decision to make. They had to decide between Burton or Averillo at 5/8th.

If they go with Burton, they are forced to pay inflated price to keep him, which impacts on what sort of halfback they can get, which in turns affects how well Burton can play.

The other option is go with the cheaper Averillo and go hard at getting a top halfback.

In my opinion, Averillo is as good (if not better) at 5/8th but Burton is a better defender and bigger boot. Averillo a better goalkicker.

Tough decision for the club.

Im leaning the Averillo + top halfback as the better solution for the team.

Burton was horrible in the first half with two deep kicks for seven tackle sets and the kick out on the full on the kick off which lead to a try.. The second half he was a lot better. Made a few breaks and put the nice kick in for Fox for Schoupp's try.

He had an average game overall. But the last few weeks he was pretty good so hopefully he can bounce back next week.

Anyone who who wants to get rid of Burton and thought he was going to be this magical answer to all our problems needs to give themselves an uppercut.
He's clearly a talented young kid but he still needs time to grow and learn the game.
Before coming here he hadn't played in the halves for over a year and he's now playing in a poorly coached team that has no confidence, not to mention he's getting zero help from any other player in the entire spine, the poor kid must have tremendous weight on his shoulders knowing he must do everything himself.
He needs a proper coach to teach him not only the game but how to attack all the different situations that will arise during the course of a game, and some other quality spine players that can be in sink with each other and execute the game plan together as a unit.

I don't know why people can't accept this. He's still young himself and developing. He hasn't reached close to his potential yet. So he was always going to have his ups and downs. Especially on a wooden spoon team where the hooker, halfback and fullback are the worst at their position in the comp.

Today he didn't play well. But he again showed glimpses of his class and skill in the second half. He hasn't put it all together yet. I'm still confident he will in the back half of the season.

Im not denying his potential talent or the fact that he's in a shit team.

But that's the whole point. He needs a very good halfback if not an entire team in order for him to shine. How can you possibly pay someone like that big bikkies?

You can't. He either needs to stay the course on the money he is on and allow the club the chance to afford a top half next to him, or he needs to go to a team no lower than top 10.

I find it extraordinary the mindset of Bulldog fans on this site.

So many are willing for Burton to get an upgrade based on his potential, yet as soon as you mention seasoned superstar players like Munster etc for 1M or abit more, the same fans give you reasons why you shouldn't burn cap money...

Seems as though the word "potential" is worth a good 300-400k in this game
