Manly are eyeing off Canterbury utility Fa’amanu Brown to ensure they never have to select Jackson Hastings in first grade again as details emerge of another heated blow up involving a player the club sought to move on.
Fairfax Media revealed that Daly Cherry-Evans was facing sanctions for his role in a series of incidents with Hastings, with the club confirming on Saturday they had slapped their skipper with a $10,000 fine. Cherry-Evans escaped a suspension and will take his place against Parramatta at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, while Hastings was banished to the Manly's feeder team, the Blacktown Workers who took on Wyong at Berkeley Oval on Saturday.
The altercation between Hastings and Cherry-Evans has dominated headlines this week, but it is not the only issue involving a player the club wanted to squeeze out. Fairfax Media can reveal prop Darcy Lussick had a furious row with Trent Barrett about the coach’s decision not to pick him in first grade.
The tirade occurred in front of the entire playing and coaching staff at a recent training session at Narrabeen, Lussick making his displeasure known during an expletive-laden spray. Moments later, Lussick’s father, Jason – a full-time member of the Sea Eagles staff – also unloaded on Barrett in defence of his son.
Stunned players and officials claim it was one of the most fierce verbal attacks they had witnessed and feared it could spill over and become physical. After overcoming injuries, Lussick was fit for NRL selection in recent weeks, but was instead relegated to Blacktown. The Lussicks believed Darcy being dropped to reserve grade was a ploy to move the former Parramatta prop on from his lucrative deal to free up space under the salary cap.

Manly are under salary cap pressure after being busted for systematically rorting the system to the tune of $1.5 million over five years. The club have been handed a $750,000 fine, as well as a $660,000 reduction in their salary cap allowance for 2018 and 2019.
If so, it appears to have worked. Manly recently announced that it agreed to release Lussick from the final year of his contract to take up a rich deal with the Toronto Wolfpack.
Jason Lussick – whose son Joey also remains on the Sea Eagles books and has played one NRL game for the club – declined to comment.
The blow up between the Lussicks and Barrett is the latest in a series of heated altercations at the embattled club. Former Manly assistant coach Willie Peters complained of being bullied before exchanging blows with fellow staffer Dan Ferris last year. The fight resulted in Peters leaving the club with “immediate effect” and he subsequently joined South Sydney.
Meanwhile, the fallout from the Hastings-Cherry-Evans altercation continues. It was initially suggested Hastings’ teammates weren’t prepared to play with the former Roosters playmaker, although it has become apparent that some would support his return to the NRL side. Some have privately messaged Hastings to pledge their support, while Addin Fonua-Blake and Brad Parker have publicly stated they would have no issue playing alongside him.
While Cherry-Evans has been fined, it is clear the club has backed its $10 million man in the tussle. Barrett said during the week that Hastings wouldn’t be picked in first grade despite the cap and injury issues the Sea Eagles are facing.
Canterbury’s Brown was poised to start the season as Kieran Foran’s Bulldogs halves partner, but was relegated to reserve grade because he didn’t meet the standards required by coach Dean Pay.
Manly believe Brown could fill in at hooker and in many places in the back line – the same positions covered by the out-of-favour Hastings. Whether the Sea Eagles will have salary cap space to poach Brown – they are still waiting to learn whether they will be granted leave to appeal against their salary cap sanctions – remains to be seen. One option may be a player swap, but it’s unclear whether the Bulldogs would agree to this.

Fuck Brown, Give us the Trbo bros and they can choose any 3 players aside from RFM, Foran and Jacko.

Des was after the Trbo boys hard about 3 years ago and missed out due to them wanting to stay in Manly. Wow our team would be close to complete with them:

Do their players actually live in Canada or do they just hotel it up in England all the time?

I got this off their Wiki page:
As most players on the roster are not from Toronto, the team stays at the George Brown College residence in West Don Lands that is the former site of the 2015 Pan American Games Athletes' Village and trains at Lamport Stadium. Away teams stay at York University residence and train on York University athletic facilities. Air Transat sponsors the travel and accommodation cost for all of the away teams.[33]

Toronto signed an agreement with Brighouse Rangers to share their training ground for pre-seasons and while the Wolfpack are in the UK for away fixtures for 2017.[34] At the end of the 2017 season the Wolfpack confirmed their intention to switch to a base in Manchester, England, during the 2018 season, and in 2018 announced the deepening of their partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and its community.[35] Manchester now serves as the Wolfpack's home in the United Kingdom.

Wolfpack has just been spanked in the Challenge Cup. Looks like they might have some ill discipline - what a surprise...

Toronto Wolfpack lose their heads to let Warrington run riot with 12 tries
• Toronto 10-66 Warrington
• Red card and three yellows for wild Wolfpack

The first transatlantic team in rugby league are overwhelming favourites to win promotion to Super League at the first attempt via the Qualifiers, but by the end of this game the Toronto Wolfpack had learned an important lesson.

Given the array of talent the Wolfpack have assembled in their quest to reach the promised land it was perhaps no surprise that after 25 minutes of this Challenge Cup tie they were ahead against this country’s form side.

However, things turned sour for the Canadian side – and the manner in which their discipline abandoned them will have sent a clear message that, unless they smarten up that part of their game, promotion may not quite be the formality some expect this summer.

Their coach was quick to admit the Wolfpack were their own worst enemies here. “It certainly doesn’t enhance our reputation,” Paul Rowley said. “The second half was shambolic from our point of view – I wasn’t impressed. We accept responsibility for not being good enough in terms of our discipline.”

They were ahead by four points when the chaos began, as Liam Kay was sent to the sin-bin for a dangerous tackle on the Warrington wing Josh Charnley. But when Andrew Dixon was sent off two minutes before half-time for punching the Warrington youngster Harvey Livett, Toronto collapsed.

At one stage they were playing with 10 men after Josh McCrone and Darcy Lussick were sent to the sin-bin following two incidents of dissent. Against a side in such scintillating form as Warrington, there was likely to be just one outcome once the Wolfpack had begun to implode – and the Wolves scored 56 unanswered points in little over 40 minutes to emphatically book a quarter-final showdown with Wigan.

“There were 24 penalties and all of them were warranted,” their coach, Steve Price, said. “Ben Thaler controlled it very well but it was like Lord of The Rings, watching that. It’s one of the slowest games I’ve been involved in. It wasn’t a great look for the game, to be honest.”

Toronto had begun much the better of the two sides, and after Adam Higson and Kay scored two well‑worked tries it was hard to argue with the 8-0 early lead they had established. Mike Cooper soon opened Warrington’s scoring, before a penalty from the boot of Ryan Brierley pushed Toronto’s lead back out to four points.

From there, though, matters turned ugly. And when Dixon was sent off before the break Charnley’s try put the Wolves ahead by two: they would not fall behind again. In all there were 10 tries in that second half, including three for the winger Tom Lineham.

Before that, the two tries in four minutes while Toronto were playing with only 10 men were crucial – in effect, they killed off any chance the Wolfpack had of victory. As the half wore on their discipline continued to worsen, allowing Warrington to progress with somewhat of a canter by the end.

Warrington will now meet last year’s finalists Wigan in a rerun of the 2016 Super League Grand Final. “It will be a cracking game,” Price said. “Wigan-Warrington games are always tough, brutal games.”

In the other quarter-finals, the holders Hull will travel to the Super League leaders St Helens, Leigh will face Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield will host Catalans Dragons. The last-eight games will be played on the weekend of 2-3 June.

You would play a forward dominant second phase play style like we did in 2012, and you’ll end up pretty close. The trbo bros are superstars and we have a decent team but are lacking any game winning players. Obviously we would still have to find a partner for Foran but I have faith in one of either Cogger or Lewis to fire.
