Longmire heads on coaching summit

Sydney Swans premiership coach John Longmire has been invited to an exclusive meeting of eight international coaches in the UK early next month.

The P8 Summit, which is not publicised and keeps its guest list tightly guarded, brings senior coaches and general managers together behind closed doors to share ideas.

Longmire is the second AFL coach to attend the summit, which is coordinated by the industry body Leaders and has included past guests such as prominent soccer managers Arsene Wenger, Steve McClaren and Gerard Houllier.

Four-time Hawthorn premiership coach Alastair Clarkson attended the summit last year and was joined by British cycling coach Sir Dave Brailsford, England soccer manager Roy Hodgson and World Cup-winning cricket coach Gary Kirsten.

Leaders is secretive about this year's guest list and the exact location of the summit, which will host some of the highest-profile names in international sport.

"The purpose of the P8 Summit is to bring together a small group of leading performance experts to share ideas and learn in an intimate 'closed door' environment," Leaders told AFL.com.au in a statement.

"It is a confidential group discussion with a planned agenda and is specifically designed for head coaches and general managers for whom learning opportunities have become increasingly rare, allowing them to exchange best practice with peers in other sports."

Longmire, who led the Swans to the 2012 premiership, is contracted until the end of 2017 and has been voted the AFL Coaches Association's coach of the year twice in the past four years.

When was the last time any NRL coach was invited to join the P8 Summit??? or Has the NRL really fallen so far behind the AFL that the leaders of the P8 summit don't qualify any of our elite NRL coaches worthy of a seat amungst the world's sporting elite leaders???
