Topine and Schoupp should already be top 30. Biondi Odo should be in development and play hooker off the bench in NRL later in the season
couldnt agree more .BBO needs to be given a go somewhere and impact hooker could work .
Hope some of these guys get bit of a run this year .Is Schoup our future over hoppa ,needs a go to be able to see if so.Is topine a better option over Britt,id say yes already and could potentially take over from jacko.our bench spots will be a battle royal .we are looking strong with whats coming through and our signings.
Been a long time since us dogs fans had such positive optimism.

Schoupp and Alomoti are the biggest reason we don’t need to be going to the market and splashing huge coin on Crichton or Staggs. Granted there is no guarantees with juniors but we would be pretty unlucky for both of these to turn out to be duds.
Exactly, short term fixes by buying established players, is often not always the best way to go. How great it is to watch our home grown youngsters make it.
I just hope that we are smarter at keeping the best, unlike we were with SBW and JT.

As with all things Salary Cap related, the key is a mix, players on the way up, players at their peak, players on the way down, relatively inexperienced players, mixed with seasoned veterans. Players that come up through our juniors, players from other teams that were trapped and couldn’t use their talents, players that were grossly underpaid for their abilities, internationals from other countries, etc. A look at the long term successful teams and that’s what we see, a mixture of ingredients that the coaching staff mould into a team.

As for your examples, seriously, SBW had a dickhead in each ear telling him what to do and blocking out everything else. He had a valid contract, with years to run, and in order to escape from that he fled the country, snuck out like a thief in the night. No amount of “smarter” was going to prevent that. JT is 100% hindsight, no one could predict the future for him, we had 2 quality players well ahead of him at the time in Sherwin (who should have won the DM over AJohns) and Anasta (who at that time had played for Australia and was a current SOO player). Sometimes the timing just isn’t right, no matter how “smart“ you play it at the time.

Let's hope that in nabbing Burton after a few NRL games, we've swooped on a serious star of the future similar to the Cowboys when they got JT.

At the time I was just so disappointed. That year I watch many reserve grade games & JT was already a class above everyone. Then Anasta was injured for quite a number of games & JT killed them in first grade & the team performed even better. I recall that he did not signed for a lot of $ with cowboys & was willing to play for less with the Dogs. Irrespective who is in the FG, I hope the Dogs do let another player oozing with talent forced to leave the club.
... but what a interchange line for the grand final JT, SBW...

I don't doubt the importance of buying talent when the right opportunity presents itself,
However I don't quite agree with you regarding how SBW was enticed to walk out on our club, as you say SBW may have have had dickheads blowing in his ears, but behind the dickheads their were some clever cunning puppeteer's pulling their strings. There is no doubt in my mind which club the puppeteers were representing.
I believe that players particularity young ones can be made aware (warned) of the fact that listening to adverse publicity against our club might no be in their best long term interest.
