What I can’t understand is why the club involved the nrl by reporting the incident. In the old days, the whole thing would have been effectively handled internally and it would never have been made public. Lewis might have been on the injured list for a couple of weeks as a result of a training accident. No adverse headlines.

Not sure but the alleged stolen gear was provided to the club by the NRL, therefore it would be stolen from the NRL, not the club
