LA Fires

Yeah the expanded contract (next 10 years) from last year now makes it 11 aircraft of different sizes and uses including fixed and rotary. The B737 tanker is more about that it can hold 72 people as well as the retardant, so it helps with forward deployment as situations begin to escalate. Chinook definitely more flexible in terms of quick access to water but as you say more concentrated drops so both have pros/cons.
You're not using planes for forward deployment unless its a very specific circumstance, they get dropped by parachute so if they get snagged, its death. You can rappel off a chopper and evacuated much easier.

Planes make great PR. Really big and you think they can drop heaps. They cannot though when you add it up over a day.

Don't get me wrong, during a fire PR is important. Worst thing that can happen is people start panicking and doing stupid shit. Reckon we have the balance not far off right here.

As much as I don't like ScoMo, I don't see why he couldn't have a holiday in peace. Nothing he could have done about the fires.

And why the media etc had to know if he was holidaying in Australia or not. (None of our business)

What I did hate, was when people refused to shake his hand, he grabbed their hand & shook it.

That is the most nonsensical response I've ever heard

Its called leadership

....But but but the fire chief is command, he is the leader of the country and must be at forefront at any disaster

He had 16 jobs already. Let the poor bastard have a holiday.

No I mean deployment of personnel (not necessarily firefighters) including the PR machine as well as equipment etc beyond the retardant. But the main benefit is it’s a package - made up for different markets at different times and hence share the cost too. Rotary is a very expensive business which is one reason why in different applications such as photography, shark spotting and others I’m not thinking of right now, helicopters are being replaced by drones (which aren’t effective for fire fighting obviously) - all about balance.

Its a cascade now - everything comes out of central command in Sydney. Then you have area commands down to local commands. But all the logistic/planning comes out of area/central. So you are not really moving backstaff around now too much. But shared cost - fair enough.

Drones are constrained by CASA flight rules - cannot send them too far. Believe line of sight got relaxed (a little) but you are still limited by altitude which in turn limits visibility.

Not cheap - fair enough. But thats firefighting for you.

You're right about some good people. Stories of people leaving keys in cars in case someone needed to evacuate. And tbh - only 10 fatalities so far given the fire spread seems like a miracle. Context - we lost nearly 500 lives in 2019-20. So seems like to me if the fatalities stay low, you cannot complain about the response. Fireys save lives. Saving properties is a bonus.

There's a good clip where a guy is saying to a reporter that people should leave their keys in the car so they can move the cars out of the way to allow fire trucks through. The reported thanks the guy and asks his name. The guy says, "Steve Guttenberg"

Yeah - seen that clip.

And I hope this is not the next 4 years. Every Dump tv network is all over Cali pollies making shit up left right and centre. The other channels, are showing people helping out, providing advice on how you can help out and reporting the magnitude.

Cannot wait for the next Gulf Of America hurricane. Now if Dump had allowed the windmills then that would have absorbed the Hurricane and no one would have been hurt. Sack First Lady Convicted Felon Dump.

Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?

very similar to our river systems with our water rights sold to the highest bidders.

"Steve Guttenberg"

Trump blamed Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom for the wildfire crisis – claiming in a social media post that Newsom “refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him...

.. This is false. Newsom has never refused to sign a “water restoration declaration.” In fact, there is no such document.

The Trump team is typing one up now.

It will have the most beautiful words ever written in a document. Using the most beautiful font ever.

The most completely useless and obvious example of me having too much time on my hands information ever, dude who wrote Game Of Thrones, one of the books- A Song of Ice and Fire - used Trump font in it (yes - it is a thing).

Off to have a bong now. I believe its warranted.

The Police Acedemy movies made him a star.

As a punishment I was going to send you to The Blue Oyster.

Edit: added a word
Wrong, the Stone Cutters made him a star...

This is what I don't understand. People have issue with Israel, which is fair enough considering what they're doing. But their response is to attack Jewish people who don't live in Israel. If those people loved Israel so much then they'd live there. Clearly they don't live there because they don't want to be Israeli. So targeting them is stupid.

But I think this is just a brewing issue that has been going on for decades. There's certain people in society that want an excuse to justify their racism and bigotry. They think the actions of the Israeli government gives them justification to spread hate.

It is due to the fact that many groups of people do not like that said group of people especially with all the power, finance, propaganda and control issues they have introduced and propagated into this world, plus I believe there is a clash of ideologies between these groups on who should be supreme and who should be a slave down to its core...

It is also much easier to confront and attack said group of people when they don't have trigger happy soldiers standing behind/guarding them who shoot first and don't ask later
