"Police were called to a home in Lilyfield on Friday morning and arrested Kent and a 33-year-old woman, Nine News reported. The woman was released without charge.

Kent was charged with common assault and choking a person without consent.

Kent is a senior writer for The Daily Telegraph and is the co-host of the Fox Sports show NRL 360"

WTF is that about? Um excuse me miss, as we are having an altercation, do you consent with me putting you in a Jujitsu choke hold?

Newton living in fear after punch, court told

ACTOR Matthew Newton is living in ''utter fear'' after being king hit by a man following a media campaign calling on people to ''punch him in the mouth'', a court heard yesterday.
Newton's solicitor, Chris Murphy, told the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney that his client had been subjected to harassment and vilification by sections of the media since an alleged violent incident against his former fiancee, actor Rachael Taylor, last year in Rome.
In a column headlined ''Low Newton needs some of his own medicine'', published in the Daily Telegraph, Paul Kent called Newton ''a dog'' and said he ''needs a good hiding. A smack in the mouth.''
Mr Murphy said Kent ran a ''national campaign'' in the newspaper, as well as on Channel 7 and Triple M, calling for an attack against Newton.
''That journalist's wish was fulfilled,'' Mr Murphy said, when Newton was king hit by a ''large man'' as he left a friend's apartment in Surry Hills to buy cigarettes last December.

The attack occurred five days after Newton left the Northside Clinic at Wentworthville where he had been treated for an unspecified psychiatric condition for 100 days.
The actor sustained a broken nose and needed stitches, but the incident was not reported to police.
Mr Murphy said Newton had attempted to re-admit himself to the clinic but his treating psychiatrist was on leave. At a loose end, he allegedly rang Taylor and then sent her a text message apologising for contacting her.
''The decision to ring his girlfriend was a mistake,'' Mr Murphy said.
The apprehended violence order taken against Newton by his former partner banned him from contacting her and he was arrested and charged in February with breaching the order and using a telephone to harass, menace or intimidate

He looks like a woman basher anyways.
Wouldn't know what a typical "woman basher" looks like, don't have any reference points. Always taught to never judge a book by it's cover.

Anyways, the court posting and limited information suggests that it's far from a one-sided incident. Who knows, Kent may have needed to restrain the lady and has been falsely reported. Two-way AVOs have a way of revealing a very different set of circumstances when the facts are revealed.

Time will tell, best not to tar him with the same legal circumstances as a convicted rapist.

You’re right bro but I always find it funny when Waterboys start defending players or media personalities etc. always looks a bit convenient to me. End of the day it’s Paul Kent so who gives a fck

Oh yeah, because during the Coffs scandal, Fox/Murdoch press, and all of the press actually, treaded water so gently about the story and they were all so fair and balanced. The point is these media fucks go all in for a sensational story, even when they don't have the evidence, yet when the shoes on the other foot, the rules seems different.

Na fuck him. They always presume so now the coward piece of shit can cop it.

Exactly. Since when do they give the benefit of the doubt towards players or coaches? This isn't Kent's first instance of violence or shady behaviour. He's always been a loose cannon. Even just the accusation or association with a charge like this means he should be stood down indefinitely from his crappy show.
