KANGAROOS firebrand David Klemmer says he has been empowered by his first taste of Mal Meninga’s coaching style.

Klemmer has offered up an insight into Meninga who is in the midst of his first tour as national coach. While Klemmer had played against a Meninga-coached Queensland side, he has since gained a new respect for the Test legend.

“Mal is a different sort of coach,” Klemmer said. “I’ve never experienced anything like him before.

“He wants to get the best out of his players. He puts the onus on you, because you’re an elite footballer you have to look after yourself. Especially if he is going to be lenient to you. I’m loving being in camp with the boys.

“He gives a lot but you’ve got to be responsible for your actions at training. If he gives you days off you have to look after yourself. He is really professional. He is a good person.”

The Kangaroos returned to their first serious training session at St George’s Park since beating Scotland in the opening Four Nations game. Klemmer said having days off was Meninga’s way of keeping his side fresh for the back end of the tournament.

“That’s why he gets the best out of the players as well,” Klemmer said. “He gives us a couple of days off after a game. He puts it back on you to be right.

“When we’re on the paddock it’s go time. When we’re away from the paddock, it’s have fun and have a laugh.”

The Kangaroos are bracing themselves for halves Cooper Cronk and Johnathan Thurston to come under heavy attention from the Kiwis on Sunday. Klemmer said the big boppers would protect their little generals after Thurston targeted when the teams met in Perth.

“At the time it was frustration but we moved on,” Klemmer said of the extra traffic in Thurston’s direction. “They’ll be trying to target (Thurston and Cronk) as a team. As a team we’ve got to get among it and help them out.

“We don’t want their forwards to go over us.”

Lol.
Klem basically slams hasler.
Clearly even our players are sick of haslers stats and micromanaging.

The problem isn't des.

It's more dib and castles. They are the ones that let him do shit.

After they released Barba they should have asked Hasler who the new fullback be (and try and get someone decent) instead they walked around saying our next fullback will be a rock star (as in an improvement on what we had) what followed was 3 years of muppets filling in.

Castles comes out with bullshit stats (we were the best attacking team in the first 20 rounds). How dumb can you be. And who believes that bullshit propaganda. We finished 7th with 4 losses in a row.

Dib comes out and quotes bullfrog from 40 years ago says that what he stands for...

They should have their head on the chopping block and I will be glad to see the back of them.

We were easily the best team in the comp in 2012 and we came close to a title. We have never been the best team in the Comp since then (not even in the top 4 best teams). Castles and dib should have fixed the situation in 2014 instead of being happy with a 7th place finish and losing a gf 30-6.

And they should have stopped coming out at every opportunity they had saying they are the only team to make 2gf in 5 years or we made the top 8 every year under Hasler. They should have asked why his recruitment was so poor and why so many contracts are back ended. And why our forwards touch the ball more times in attacking zones then our halves.

If they don't know how to ask these questions then they shouldn't be in charge of football clubs. If they think income is 1/3 of their focus and football is another 1/3 then they are in the wrong business and definitely at the wrong club.

Winning will bring money. But they have definitely proved money won't bring success so they failed.

I agree des Fucked everything. He had all the resources in the world, all the training facilities and full power and he failed miserably. He never recruited and his stuborness and was idiotic. He should have achieved more (even in terms of top 4 finishes).

But in saying that dumb and dumber let him do it. And even though we have declined every season under des they never thought there was a problem and walked around proud and happy like we were the best team in the Comp. they even were happy enough to renew his contract up until Mortimer went to the media.

So I blame 40% of des. He has been a shit coach at the dogs. He had released about 3-4 million dollars in talent atleast and recruited virtually nobodies. Hasn't found 1 decent player yet to come up and make their mark in the nrl (besides what he already had in klemmer and Jackson) and had a retarded game plan that never succeeded since 2012.

But the rest of the Blame goes on the CEO and chairman who let him do this for 4 years. And try to renew his contract for 2 more years 20 months before it's up.

We are run by 3 ass clowns. Dib, castles and Hasler are all just as bad as each other it seems.

When you buy a premiership winning coach, you really shouldn't have to tell him what to do or how to do it. It is his job to COACH the side and you have to put your faith in him or cut him if you don't agree with where to team is at.

Yes you can blame the board for letting things go to far and putting to much faith in him even after multiple dud calls and poor playstyle...but still this is on Des. Des needs to go first because we sure aren't going anywhere under Des atm. Id still like most the Board and co to fuck off though.

Klemmer is always a breath of fresh air and hopefully his reinvigorated outlook on league will last long enough to spread within the Bulldogs.
Any wonder Qld have cruised for 10 years.
Footballers are straight forward blokes who love to play footy and have a laugh, Hasler treats players like commodities for his own interests imo and unfortunately it takes the management 5+ years to work it out whilst trying to recoup their investment.
I respect Haslers credentials but think the Bulldogs are barking up the wrong tree sticking with him any longer.

It would be refreshing for Klemmer to have a coach like Mal instead of the clueless Dudley in a tournament scenario. Sounds like he is enjoying his footy it would be a completely different style to Hasler who probably gets the ipads and stats sheet out at every opportunity lol

Translation = You can get more out of players by respecting their intelligence, allowing some autonomy, and refraining from micromanaging them.

Most players will be responsible if you give them responsibility, like most employees in most industries.

Players at that level don't need coaching... Just someone to ensure the team is in the right frame of mind...
Most here would've said Hagan was the brains behind QLDs success... Not to mention smith, slater, cronk, and Lockyer would have effectively been running the team and training...
Mals strike rate in the week to week grind of NRL was less than impressive... Though a long time ago admittedly...
