So apparently Tariq Sims was on $650k at the Drags this year. Compare that to the $$$'s for some of our forwards. Depressing thought.

Now to make it worse. Everyone probably knows he signed with the Storm for 1 year. What you might not know is the Storm have $200k left in their cap for next year. Assuming 3rd parties (which haven't been published for two years but for the sake of the argument, Storm had 10% of their cap on third parties) - thats probably in the domain of $250-$300k.

So basically the current NSW SOO second rower who is in form for less than half price.

No doubt he took this to sign with a successful team. The haves and have nots continue.

I don't think Sims is that good personally (not a meta second rower in today's game). At a top team I don't think he's worth that much more. Corey Allan played Origin so it depends on the circumstances. Sims won't be picked for Origin this year.

They are the numbers bro. Is what it is. Storm have around $200k in the salary cap for next year.
And who defines market value? Not sure thats a rule. Happy to be proven wrong though.
It depends what other clubs would offer him. He'll get nowhere near his reported 650k at the Dragons. A bottom team struggling for leadership might offer him a bit more than the Storm would of. AFAIK you can sign wherever you want for whatever you want/can get. It's up to the player if they want success or money (or both if they have the option). Players more often than not aren't going to leave big amounts of money on the table.

Unless they're at the end of their career and want a ring. Players taking unders to be on competitive teams is not new - just this is a big under.

300k isn't far off what he's worth these days imo.

Surely Storm have more than 200k left for next year. They’ve lost like 8 players.

After contacting my lizard network and getting the goss, thats not quite correct. The contract has to be approved by the salary cap auditor who assesses it against comparable players.

So depends who u think the comps are. Corey Waddell is on $210k, so by extrapolation Sims should be on $17 million. Maybe you are right.

lol yeh it is not an exact science, but for instance they can not pay Munster say $400 when he is rated number 1 6 in the game. It has to be fair and reasonable. When they say overs Munster by worth $1.2 on the open market but market value might be $750k for a player like him.
