Good.. teach her to stop snooping around... and whoever gave her that information is going to be looking for a new job too.

What we've learned... don't publish photos of ASD confidential information in your paper.

Now if only we could get Rothfield to follow her suit.

Journalists think they're above the law as well as being creatures of mass manipulation.

Will there ever be another Brian Henderson or Roger Climpson?
Those guys had integrity when they were working!

Journalists don't think they're above the law. They know their limits. Journalists will report things while leaning on their bias, but they won't make shit up.

And the fact that the journalist was arrested for disclosure of national security information rather than being sued for defamation shows the issue here.

The government were planning to illegally spy on people. A complete illegal invasion of privacy. A journalist published this knowing full well that she would be arrested for it, and the response is that the journalist did the wrong thing here and the government are the good guys.

I'm not anti-government, but that's ridiculous. Wiki-leaks had the same issue where Julian Assange posted evidence that the US government executed a reporter, and what happened? Everyone ignored the completely illegal activity of the government and instead attacked Assange for revealing the government's illegal activity.

What amazes me most about these kind of situations isn't that the government are moving toward an Orwellian 1984 style future, it's that the people are celebrating the loss of their own freedom like it's a good thing.

@Hacky McAxe .

I've dealt with mainstream media and they do think they're above the law.
Trust me on that!

If they don't think they're above the law they at least think their shit don't stink while the sun is shining out of their ass!

Id feel in much safer hands with a corrupt police officer over a journalist.

The problem is these journos don't think of the potential ramifications of what they publish. They just publish it for a kick/ego trip, with little to no regard what impact that article might have.

Mad Monday is a perfect example of this.

They need to bring in media reforms to make the media accountable for spreading incorrect news.

Just to give you some perspective how crazy jounos are.
A few years back a journalist for a local bankstown paper said she was going to name and shame me in her column just for having anti feminist views.

I laughed when my friend told me about that.

Let’s forget about the reality that the government is plotting to illegally spy on us to celebrate the arrest of the big, bad journalist.....

Journalists can be manipulative and dishonest at times, but without them, who do you think will stand in the way of complete government manipulation and control? The anti corruption fairy?

You don’t think it’s in the public interest to know the government is planning to illegally scrutinise us for the purposes of manipulation and control?

Its old news.
Nothing new.
Government have been spying on us for at least 20 years or more!

If you use the internet (former military and CIA communication device) then you're being tracked and spied on!

Suppose wgat you are saying is true, does that mean it’s any less a matter of public interest? Exposing shot like this is what investigative journalism is supposed to be for, yet people celebrate the arrest of the journalist based on a owrseotion that media is badddd m’kay?

It’s this same reasoning which allows people like Trump to constantly find new ways to abuse his power without putting his supporter base offside.

Journalists could and should be held to a higher standard and made more accountable in certain circumstances, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still perform important functions.

Would you rather a media which is completely manipulated and controlled by the government ie China or North Korea?

I hear you loud and clear.
All I can say in return is too little too late.

Both media and politicians are scum.
To me they are one in the same!

Lol you realise I am in the media? I guess this means we can’t be friends! :p

I think the truth is a bit less dogmatic than that. There are journalists who are scum and those who want to do something constructive. Same goes for politicians, I guess....

Too bad the destructive ones tend to have the loudest voices.

I've got a friend whose associated with journalists.

I find journalists and politicians to be out of touch with reality.

Im not saying all journalists are bad but about 99.9% of them think they're something special thats for sure.

You can't dispute me on that!

Well, I’m in the community arm of the business and most people I’ve worked with are honest and humble enough. I’ve worked with a few dickheads in my time, but they are the exception, not the rule. The dickheads are often more eager to appease their owners and editors without letting conscience get in the way. I actually left a job because I felt the editorial slant of the company was opposed to my own values and ethics. It depends. Some are about ethics, some are just about egos. Often the ego driven appeasers go further in life. That’s true of most industries, I think. Not just journalism. This is why I relate to Dostoyevsky’s underground man in ways.... lol

I cracked my phone and can’t really see what I’m typing, so I hope this doesn’t make your eyes bleed.... lol
