I just hope it doesn’t jeopardise us getting a half and hooker. Addo Carr would not be the player he is without them

Souffs are trying to offload Allen to us in order to sign JAC
Hope we don't fall for that bait... I know hes like 28-29 now but I'd take Gagai off them if he was happy to play wing outside Cotric and Souths contributed a fair chunk and we could offload DWZ

I read the Storm are interested in George Jennings so they might not stipulate a player swap now.

The Storm blew the Raiders off the park in the first 20 minutes with pace. We need pace badly if we're going to match it with the top 4 teams and none better in that department than JAC. We're lucky he's even available and at a fair price of around only 600K according to reports - not the 1M Mitchell was seeking. Bellamy and Slater have both said publicly they're confident he could handle fullback. They know more than us. If he can catch a bomb he's way better than DWZ who we can hopefully shop around. He's just too unreliable and always will be it seems. Wasn't long ago DWZ was the NZ test captain though so he has to be worth something to someone. Reimis is off contract at the end of next season as is Okunbor. Hopa also.

Flanagan and Burton won't break the bank at only around 600-700k for both. I heard we've already baulked at JAC's asking price but hopefully Barrett wants JAC and he can change a few minds. There must be a way we can sign JAC, Flanagan, Burton and either Grant or B Smith by 2022 considering the number of players coming off contract at the end of next season. Only 5 are worth retaining from 15. Shedding Hopa would free up 500K alone or maybe more. I really believe we could afford Stephen Crichton also at around 600K. If you look at the roster of the Bunnies, Roosters etc we should definitely be able to afford this team by 2022.

This is a very fast backline. Spine of JAC, Burton, Flanagan and B Smith / Grant would be unreal. We need to make it happen.

1 JAC
2 Nick Meaney / Jayden Okunbor / Tui Katoa
3 Nick Cotric
4 Stephen Crichton
5 Jake Averillo
6 Matt Burton
7 Kyle Flanagan
8 Ofahiki Ogden
9 Brandon Smith (more likely) / Harry Grant
10 Luke Thompson
11 RFM
12 Adam Elliott
13 Josh Jackson

14 Jack Hetherington
15 Renouf Toomaga
16 Corey Waddell
17 Joe Stimson
18 Matt Doorey

I'm definitely not against signing him but I am is it's fullback money that ends up costing us the signature of a premier hooker in. Grant or Smith.
JAC may well become a better fullback than BSmith a hooker. Smith is not premier status as he’ll always be a better utility than a specialist no9 imo.

How on earth do you figure Averilo is a winger though?? No chance.
Honestly, im mot apposed to signing him, but as it stands with who we have on our books, it doesnt make sense. Id rather see Averilo at fb long term even if we did sign JAC. Even if he chops his stupid man bun off, i still would only want him as a winger.

If we sign Crighton, it will be at FB for 2022. we can get Fox, Flanagan and Hooker most likely B Smith for next year 2021
for 2022 the team should look at K Staggs to play 5/8 for us imo

As a winger... 100000% ... but not as any other position. One of the best wingers in the game in attack!
I’m sure he’ll make a reasonable go at fullback...he can catch, he can run, and he’ll get the ball more ...once he figures out how to pass ...Fark Ben Barba-esque seasons are not out of the question. This kid is scary fast and transforms our appeal as a team.
I’m for it

From all reports, Melbourne will only release him if they get a player in return. So who goes the other way from the dogs? Given the fact he is better than all our backs do we really care who goes to Melbourne? I would only be disappointed if it was Averillo.
We'll reluctantly give Melbourne our "big 4" in Lewis, Wakeham, JMK and Napa.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions so I respect that but disagree. Smith is a great 9, the fact that he is so valuable to the storm that they have played him anywhere to give him enough game time to keep him happy suggests that. I think his ability to play other positions isn't detrimental to his skills at 9.

I also think the way the game is played now, hooker might actually be the most important position on the field which goes a way to ah why we have been so bad since we lost Ennis and cook.

I was browsing through the Tigers forum tonight and they have some posters, who would be the equivalent of myself, Hayes etc who have insiders and the good oil and they swear blind that JAC has signed with them and it'll be announced after the GF

Spot on about the hooker role. The hooker touches the ball in every single tackle and the reason why C Smith is the most influential role in the game. A great half can still be restricted be a dud dummy half who has no vision and can't pass properly to the half or passes to the wrong person.
