James Maloney is set to today announce he is leaving the Penrith Panthers and the NRL at the end of the season.

Maloney has inked a three-year deal with Super League club Catalans Dragons, and will move to the south of France at the end of the year.

The 33-year-old still has another year to run on his deal with Penrith, however, the club gave him their blessing to explore an option overseas.

Penrith were more than happy to keep Maloney at the club if he wanted to stay, making room in the salary cap for 2020 after releasing Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Waqa Blake.

However, the veteran playmaker, who has led NSW to back-to-back Origin series wins the past two years, wanted to take his wife and four children overseas and enjoy a change of lifestyle.

The Panthers are yet to make an official announcement.

Good luck to the Panthers once he goes. They're going to love him in the ESL.

Champion player. Brings success wherever he goes. Won't be surprised if Catalans win the premiership next year.

Can you imagine he wins a Premiership this year followed by getting Catalans getting their first win? He'd have to go down as one of the all time greats.

I know. He's not underrated but there are a lot of players in the NRL who get more praise than him but their achievements don't come close to his.

2010 Warriors 5th
2011 Warriors Grand finalist
2012 Warriors 14th
2013 MinorPremiership/Roosters Premiership
2014 Minor Premiership
2015 Minor Premiership
2016 Sharks Premiership
2017 Sharks 7th / Semi Final
2018 Panthers 5th Quarter Finals

Better stats than so called super stars like Benji, Hayne and Johnson.

I guess Luke Keary has a sick grin on his face now. After the Cody Walker fiasco, Keary simply walks into the Blues #6 next year!

Still pissed off we never signed him all those years ago when me and @finchie we're calling it out for it like lunatics lol. Has the bloke ever not played in the finals? Every team he goes to improves.

Only in 2012, and that was only because he was carrying that Warriors side all on his own. Coach and team were useless that year.

What a freak. Do wonder why he never stayed at a club long-term though? Was it to keep himself motivated with fresh challenges and new environments? Or did he just piss people off so much that you could only cope with him around for a few seasons :tearsofjoy:

He has that same mentality as Terry Lamb where he is just ultra competitive and refuses to lose.

Maloney was deadset the perfect signing for us, he is what Foran should've been and what some people still think he is. A bloke that can comfortably play both 5/8 and halfback to suit the requirements of the team and just scrap for absolutely everything.

They aren't going to get close to winning the title this year.

Okay mate. Last I checked they've won 7 in a row.
Last I checked you don't win the title from 7th position in July.

He’s a penalty prone turnstile, but also a match winner.

5 x a better player than Cleary who has done nothing in his career.
