“We are meeting with his manager Wayde Rushton this week and hope we can work something out.”

The Bulldogs are reportedly attempting to offer young forward Jacob Preston a long-term deal to re-sign with the club.

This decision comes after Preston has only appeared in five NRL career matches. However, he has shown how impactful and dangerous he can be in the forward pack.

Already signed until the end of 2024, The Mole on Wide World of Sports states the Bulldogs are trying to get his signature for the future past 2024.

"He has been great for us," Phil Gould said to Wide World of Sports.

"We are meeting with his manager Wayde Rushton this week and hope we can work something out."

The current leader for the Rookie of the Year award, Preston joined the Bulldogs this year looking for opportunities.

Playing his junior footy in Manly, he played two years with the Sydney Roosters' Jersey Flegg side.

This bloke is awesome, a throwback to footy players from the 80s and 90s. Tough, goes all day, breaks tackles, runs good lines, has that innate sense of timing for how to hit ball carriers with some sting. Seems to be a really nice bloke too, humble, doesn't get ahead of himself, but with some real inner steel of determination about him.

He is a kinda gangly 100% effort player in the Robbo style and will no doubt get the same kind of club legend legacy if he stays long term.

He the man.
Sorry about my poor judgment.
This guy could be anything, walks in and starts putting the points up.

It's not simply the 5 games that Preston has played but also how everyone in the club has talked about him since he came over... Hopefully, the club can lock him down for a couple additional years on an upgraded deal

100% agree with this. It's not just his output on the field. It's his work ethic and attitude off it that's blown away the good judges of footballers.

Humble, hardworking as well as performing like a gun on the field. Hope they extend him today

I just hope that he doesn't bulk up too much and lose his agility.

I assume that Ciro will move him back to the right when Kiks is back, but how many players in their 5th game would be even in the conversation to displace the most damaging back rower from the previous season, awesome.

Preston is a better fit on the left outside of Burton than Kikau is imo. Preston forces Burton to play straighter.
