There are rumours today that Souths are tabling Jack Wighton a 4 year deal that is about 1M less than what the Raiders have offered him....

Are we really led to believe that Jack will sacrifice 1M to move to expensive Sydney just to play with friend Latrell, his indigenous mates and for a chance of a premiership?

It's more like he'll need 1M more than the Raiders offer just to break even...

Something is suss here....
There's gotta be an investigation into this.

(PS - I love the sarcasm by Gordon Tallis on NRL360 last night on this)

This is collusion and a restriction of trade for Raiders and Dolphins (and whoever else wants to sign him).

If Raiders offer is his market value, that has to be his price set. Raiders should have the ability to set his market value if thats what they are prepared to offer him.

Souths are using personal relationships he has with players (collusion) to entice him to sign a deal worth a lot less than his market value. This is essentially a restriction of trade.

Souths should be expected to pay his market value.

This is the perception that has been created by the way the article was written, it might be false.

I have to remind myself that Hooper and his mates at Fox love Sticky so they will probably make Jack look shit in the process.

End of the day if he wants to live in Syd and leave Canberra then he should have the freedom to do that.

He’s in the last contract of his career, it’s still good coin, playing with his mates and a genuine chance of winning a Premiership - sometimes you do take less when these Universes collide…. If it was the prime of his career, I’d call bullsh!t.

In saying that, Rusty Crowe would know a few ways to compensate him around the cap if required, that much I’m pretty sure of.

Interestingly on 6 tackles with Gus that other dude asked Gus are you interested in Wighton and Gus said I don’t know :p and the other dude was like how don’t you know you are the general manager :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Apparently Gus sees him as a lock or 5/8 and south’s have good players in these positions. Reports he is happy to play centre. But he has been the main man in Canberra for Atleast 5-6 years. Will he be happy to take a back seat to cook, illias, walker, latrell etc? Maybe he just wants to change his role, be successful and get his 750-800k?

What do they want Wighton for anyway? He's not a halfback, nor is he even half the playmaker Cody Walker is. They have the best lock in the business. Are they gonna play him at centre?

I just don't get the hype around Wighton. He's inconsistent and overrated. Although judging from his origin performances centre may be his best position.

He’ll play centre at Souths so his market worth wouldn’t be around the 1.1 mil a season. I still can’t see how they get him under the cap. Walker, Mitchell and Cook all just re-signed on good coin. They already have Murray and Arrow on big money. That’s at least 3.5-4 mil of the cal on 5 players. After next year they have 14 players off contract and two of those are Graham and Kelonomatagi (unsure of the spelling). Something will have to give in terms of losing players. I’d have a crack at getting Kelonomatagi. Plays right edge back row.

But at the end of the day it’s Souths. The NRL won’t bat an eyelid.

Grew up a bulldogs fan, but that doesnt count for much these days :p its all about the coin and 3rd party deals. Would add some mongrel and fear into our pack, something we have lacked for probably 20 years. But he wont leave South, they are becoming the new roosters :p

Nasheed here,
As a lawyer, the hood lawyer,
everythang you just said there is not right.

Restriction of trade means you cannot step in and artificially restrict an option to a player.
The employee can then prove that there is an
obligation imposed on him which prevents him from earning or limiting
his ability to earn a living at his chosen occupation (or club) yo.
Hence why Terry Hill swat down the draft, they made him go against he will.

If a player wants to go play for unders he can.

Same with u dawg, if you want to live in (your area) and earn 80k a year, whereas Dubbo says they want u to work with them for 110k a year, that is your choice yo.
There is a (most likely court contestable) extreme situation where you cant sign for like 100k if u is 1 million, like what happened to my boi Izzy, but every player has a right to take a slight paycut to go play with their brothers.

Restriction of trade doesnt mean you cant use friendship to recruit. That is business 101. You is trying to conflate it with some twisted form of insider trading.

Souths run a tight ship its what i always say.
Never underestimate how mivh black people want to play together, they racist as hell.

I am a bit weirded out by this, Wighton was the biggest raider, the move dont make a huge load of sense to me. Unless they flick Coby which is where doggs must come in and see opportuity.

What souths really need in my opinion is a big line busting angry black prop lie Haas, Oloukewe or Paulo. They are set elsewhere.

If the Rabbits buy Jack, they surely they can’t afford to keep Keaon Koloamatangi for 2025

Nah it all sounds legit to me.

A million or so for a player on his last contract isn't that much money to sacrifice. It happens all the time.

He's doing it for love of the game, his mates and the chance to win a premiership because souths are winning them all the time lately.

Nothing to see, move right along

My prediction is he stays at the raiders. And the media has gone a bit cray. Souths are fine at the back.
They need a kiraz on the wing and a big black prop and they are contenders. Not centres. Graham and Tass is fly.
