I'd like to preface this by saying that I acknowledge that Phil has done an excellent job with us over the last 3 years. He has fixed our pathways, made some astute coaching decisions and is using our biggest asset, cash, to maximum value with transfer fees and junior contracts. With the Galvin signing, he has possibly made the biggest coup in our history. I cannot have asked for much more.

That being said, has he done his job and it has ran it's natural course?
From season 2026, should we be looking toward a shrewd business like GM in the same vein as the Storm?

We know that Gus is a great building GM, but once he elevates a team to the top, he has a track record of stumbling.
At Penrith, we saw this play out. He did an excellent job building the club, but once built, he made a lot of bad decisions, like the Cleary thing, and was bundled out of the club.
Nate DAWG Nate DAWG got me thinking in another thread, to me, he is like a warrior fighting for a new kingdom, but once he wins the territory and has to run it, he doesn't know maintenance mode.

We are already seeing some controversies like players getting released mid season, no doubt costing us. We saw the Karl Oloapu fiasco, and I dont really enjoy being lied too, and Gus does this constantly.

From here on in, I think he will court controversy over good work. I am wondering if we go into season 2026 with a fresh start. He absolutely deserves to see out the season and enjoy the fruits of his labour, but I am thinking the proactive thing to do is to get a Frank Ponissi type into run the club, and Gus would be much better suited to a team underachieving like the Eels, Titans or Tigers. His strength is building.

Maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong - but there is no evidence that you are right in this instance - so we would be removing one of the most powerful and well networked personalities in the game out of Club and into the hands of opposition. So Buzz, no! :grinning:

if Lachlan didn't end up becoming available, we wouldn't have been interested.

Here's the thing, Lachlan wanted out of the Tigers, and has agitated for a release on a few occasions in the past, so ultimately, he doesn't want to be at the Tigers, and therefore he could have ended up anywhere BUT the Tigers.

Tigers are mad about that fact, and also Lachlan's reasoning re development, but another thing is, Benji wasn't exactly their original choice for head coach, they wanted Ciraldo and didn't get him... so it's not like Wests had the full faith in Benji as a head coach either.

Yeah ok, why don’t we go back to Dibb, Castle and Lynn Anderson days while we are it! What drugs are you smoking mate, seriously! If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

We're finally a club where talent wants to come to after a decade
We're finally stopped paying overs for anything that hits the market
We've finally got the salary cap under control WITHOUT a single million dollar player (how many clubs have that claim?)
We've finally got a football department that funds and fosters the pathway teams
We've finally got depth in our roster, with actual versatility and options
We've finally broken the finals drought
We're leading the 2026 competition

In no small part this is entirely due to the hard decisions, cap management, business connections and experience of Gus.

And now you want to lynch him? Be careful what you ask for as a fear what would happen if he decided to not continue.
