Australian rugby league "Immortal" Graeme Langlands has been charged with six counts of indecent dealing with a girl under 16.

Langlands, 76, was charged earlier this month but was not present when his matter was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

It is alleged the offences occurred on the Gold Coast in the early 1980s.

Langlands lives in a nursing home in New South Wales and is suffering from dementia and other health problems.

The former St George Dragons fullback and goal kicker, nicknamed "Changa", represented Australia in 45 Tests.

In 1999, Langlands was given the status of "Immortal", a title bestowed to only eight of rugby league's all-time greats.

Dementia and other health problems, so he'll get off "sorry I can't remember that happening, I have dementia".

They are charges but still only allegations.

I foresee his wiki page copping a belting, and lots of his accolades stripped.

Was only a matter of time though, seems the 70s-80s was the era for "feeling up kids".

The Dragons cheated the system for those 11 premierships. Players were supposed to live in the area. Their secretary Frank Facer listed 3/4 of the team as living at his address. They should have those titles stripped!

Innocent until proven otherwise like everybody else. There are so many allegations these days you don't know what is real or not anymore.
Bah fuck him! About time other ***** fell how us Dogs fans have felt for years.

He was a St George player but that's not the point. The real story is that he played the Bulldogs and that's who we should all really be looking at to blame for this. Is that too trivial for such a actual serious matter?

I just get frustrated. If he was a Dogs junior or anything like that i bet that would tomorrow's headline.

"Mr Langlands suffers from advanced dementia and significant cognitive impairment linked to his former playing days," his family said in a statement, calling for privacy.
"The charges will be defended."

AND THEN THIS

The details surrounding them have not been released pending a possible application by the family to suppress them.

....

So there is your defence if he's guilty.. BUT if the family make an application to supress the details, you'd have to think there is something they want to hide.

This is a sad situation either way. If he is guilty, then the child doesn't get any satisfaction as far as a prison sentence as he will be mentally unfit to go to trial. If he is innocent, he no longer has the marbles to recall anything that happened, can't defend himself & his reputation is ruined forever.

unfortunately you goto have the view that the evidence would have to b pretty solid. it's not just 1 individual saying it. think you'll find they will have multiple instances and corroborating evidence across independent sources.

Needs to be given the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise
