THE Swans have the inside running on Friday night finals at ANZ Stadium because venue officials would face a Herculean task to reconfigure the 85,000-seater twice in 48 hours.
The finals schedule for both codes remains a mystery on the eve of September and will become extremely complex should Canterbury, South Sydney and the Swans all host home finals on the same weekend.
The Bulldogs are already guaranteed to play at Homebush Bay in week one, while the second-placed Swans will join them should they defeat Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Saturday.
Canterbury boss Todd Greenberg yesterday said he'd made plenty of inquiries about what day his club would be scheduled, but is still to receive an answer.
The NRL yesterday confirmed no matches would be locked-in until the top eight order is settled in the wake of Sunday afternoon's Sharks-Cowboys clash. The short turnaround means it's highly unlikely either of those teams would be given the Friday night fixture.
Should Souths leapfrog Melbourne into second-place and earn a first weekend final, there would be a three-way logjam at Homebush Bay.
While the NRL would prefer the marquee Friday night, ANZ Stadium officials would prefer to host the Swans first-up to avoid having to change from oval to rectangular configuration.
