The Wests Tigers are threatening to hijack the Bulldogs’ bid to snare Knights forward Herman Ese’ese.

Wide World of Sports can reveal that Ese’ese met with Bulldogs officials last week and passed a medical examination.

But the Tigers have come in late, telling the in-form Knight they want him on board in 2020.

The Tigers have to clear the decks in the salary cap, however, and are attempting to offload forwards Elijah Taylor, Ben Matulino and Russell Packer as well as utility Josh Reynolds.

Newcastle would love to keep Ese’ese but salary cap pressure has left them little choice other than to cut him loose.

So, for the Tigs to sign him, they need to offload 4 players mid contract, three of which are not in good form atm and are being paid massive overs? At least we've already cut most of our deadwood.

Mautalino wouldn't be a bad pick up if Tigers pay fair chunk of freight.

You would think we would be in a better position then tigers as the guys they want to offload are on big coin and nobody really wants them unless tigers pay half the freight. But the caveat for any recruitment would be who is going to be our coach?

Always rated Essesee. However, he was punted by the Dogs, by the Broncs, and now by Knights.
Hard to enthuse if those clubs cant see much in him.
He was only punted by us he left the Broncos because Newcastle offered him more money and by the sounds of things the Knights would like to keep him but need cap space.

The Tigers would have DWZ now if they could have shifted that deadwood its not that easy to do. I'd say we are defiantly in the drivers seat for Herman.

Newcastle are now paying the price for paying massive overs for players. If it's true that klem is on a mil a season to hit it up the guts, other players are going to leave as they won't be able to get the coin they deserve.

Remember all the bitching we heard about how Bennett left them in such a bad state then only a couple of years later they are in cap trouble again and they only have a team on the edge of the 8 to show for it!

May be true. But if he was good they would have kept him and punted someone else.

Not all of the dead wood is gone. More to go. There is a chance that Liddle might be released so hes a chance.

That's not how it works though when you are trying to get under the cap. If no one wants your deadwood then you are forced to give away players you want to keep.

We're supposed to take Reynolds, free up their cap, so they can come in over the top of us to get EseEse? In whose universe if we do it.

Good old journo throwing shit and hoping something sticks.... no club will get Reynolds because he won't fetch anything over 200k. Tigers won't pay 700k for him to play elsewhere

Didnt the Tigers fork out around that 700k mark for Farah when he went to Souths?

We have paid our fair share for players playing at other clubs, though i dont think noone comes close to what the Tigers and Parra have paid previously to others

Yeah they did pay massive coin for Farah to go but I think it was because how toxic he was to the playing group.
Cleary seemed to have left the tigers with a couple of shit signings that are costing them in the player market. Reynolds, Packer, Matulino, Mbye all soaking up coin while DWZ, Waqa Blake and possibly Ese go elsewhere

He’s on Approximately $450k right now(overs)-there’s better value for that money- he won’t be at the Dogs next season.

He's not worth $450K maybe the Knights will get desperate and pay a percentage.
