Gun player, shame he didn't bring some of that Sharks form when he joined us.

He certainly was. Sometimes changing clubs can ruin a career. Perhaps his gambling problem was part of it. A lesson for many on how gambling can destroy a life.

Yeah I read that he blew 500k on gambling, that's crazy money if you adjust it to today.

I am glad people are enjoying it. I thought some people might like to know about some of our past players even if it is only a little bit of information. I appreciate nearly all of them, even the bad ones. It's not the bad ones' fault for being selected. I don't appreciate the ones that ran out on the club like Doug Laughton, Solomon Haumono, Sonny Bill Williams who all went to England/Europe in the middle of the night & Ben Barba & Ben Hannant who abandoned the club for what appears to be more money. I give a little bit of leeway to the Super League defectors who had to make decisions under pressure & quickly.

Correction, Ben Hannant didn't abandon us for money, he has 8 children, with 3 on the spectrum and 2 with ADHD, At the time his eldest son tried to take his own life several times and Ben decided that he needed the support of the family in SE Qld (Ben has 10 brothers and Sisters).

Not to mention that Ben arrived at the Bulldogs when it was rumoured Wayne was going to coach us, thus all those Bronco's players dropping into our club. Even without getting Wayne, it really helped the club as all of them put in and elevated the club.

I would have thought there would have been some mention of children with illnesses when he was leaving. All there was was mentions of homesickness. They also said his kids were just about to start school soon. He may have 8 now, but he had 3 kids at the time. Hard to believe kids just about to start school are thinking of suicide.

Homesick Hannant wants out of Dogs

"Living in Sydney I'd have to say I'm not a big fan of," Hannant said. "That's the question I've got to ask myself with my kids now. My kids are going to start going to school soon – is this where I want my kids to school?

Hannant seeking release from Dogs

Gold Coast has fielded an enquiry from Canterbury prop Ben Hannant's manager after the homesick Test star asked for a release from his contract to return to Queensland.

The 25-year-old former Brisbane forward has three children, the youngest born last year.

Nine said Hannant's family was finding it difficult being away from extended family.

My source is Ben Hannant himself, face to face, in person, not some germalist spinning a story.

Heard this too. Very private person and at the time he thought the challenges his children were having weren't the business of the public and he was ok with everyone thinking he was a Rick, as Family and his faith was everything to him.

So no evidence at all. You said he had 8 kids at the time, wrong. You said his kids tried to commit suicide several times before they wanted to leave - wrong. There were several reports all saying the same things from several different sources. I think if you did actually speak to him, that he spun you a load of bull so you wouldn't hate him for leaving. Journalists would love a story like the one you spun & it would have added to empathise his situation. The timeline does not match!

Wow, you really do need to go back and read what I posted.
I said he has 8 kids, not had 8 kids, present tense versus past tense, primary school English.
I said kid not kids , singular versus plural, more primary school English.

Personally I trust what Ben Hannant said face to face, not what some click bait that a germalist writes. I will add that Bennett confirmed much of what Hannant related about the move to Brisbane, again face to face in person.
