4 try assists for Buton in a whole year is shocking and demonstrates we can't afford to play him at 6 next year and the club must know that if they knew Sexton wasn't up to scratch with his stats.

Next year it would be nice to have a genuine 7 and 9. This year we have them. We should play them - while we can
 
i think alot of ppl are forgetting the fact that we dont really have any actual forwards for the halves to play off. all the "stats" listed of other halves come from teams with big forward packs. our small forwards can take it to the bigger packs in defense but in attack we lack severely and it shows

Its unreal that he hasnt put Kiks n a hole.

Hes never been a good ball playing half.
 
Totally different forward packs that get halves on the front foot. Our halves have to create from nothing so the stats are bullshit
 
We dont have the all round roster or maybe the coaching tactics to prioritise attack as well as defence.

So far the emphasis has been defence and it appears very little dedication to improving our attack...and thats admitting that maybe the players supposed to lead our attack even have the ability to do so and also the forwards and backs to show better aptitude to easily turn from defence to attack.

At this stage they don't.

Its something that needs to be worked on if the team is to evolve and improve next year. To win Premierships you need the complete game and the complete roster to excel on both sides of the ball.

We remain a developing team and our coach remains a developing coach..but we are well on our way in enthusiasm, pride and teamwork inspite of the shortfalls until we get the x-factors, speed and power runners.

Let's hope he reflects and learns from this post season and moves on from 1 dimensional attacking structure.

True, but Hasler was entirely focused on stats, and that started the rot at the Dogs.

We are developing, and not yet the team that Ciro is working toward.
We just have to wait, and experience some disappointment; but the team has excelled to make third place when you look at the rosters of the other seven teams that made the finals.
We have outlasted the Chooks. Win this weekend and we outlast the Panthers.

I.like your reverse psychology, get all down and shitty now so you are absolutely fatkin Stocked next year when we make top 4 again.

If the improvement of the last two years is matched over the next two years the club will be incredibly strong - atm imo the side isnt balanced n mostly toilers / workers who can grind a win but lack the dynamics needed through the middle and at fullback
 
With the potential addition in the top 22 of Todd, Thompson, latu, jethro, underhill. We will have some size which with Reed, Hayward, Mann, Solomon we never had. Yes there is an advantage in mobile smaller packs. But that doesn’t work week in week out or in finals. With a bit of moisture or poor ball security you are severely disadvantaged.

If we get someone like Todd or Thompson in at 13. I still think Hayse should be playing out wide. So maybe once kiks is moved on he takes an edge with his speed and effort plays. Hopoi has looked good at times in first grade. You’d think a year on can only improve. Hooker will be a huge hole to fill. Like others have mentioned possibly woods comes onto the bench maybe second half of the season. Yes we will have gaps in our top 17. But hopefully we see less of Salmon. Don’t think he offers enough to be a 50-60 min play. Especially with Mann who comes on and elevates us.

To be fair we are playing a long game. Yes overachieved this year. Can we go top 4 again? Without reed and a recognised 7 it will be hard. But once we get woods coming along (pezet started his 2nd game of the season last Friday and is 22 so it takes time). I always thought we are 2-3 years from our “dynasty” when Burton, critta, Preston, Kiraz, Todd will be 25-27.

Let’s not forget. If we rank our team. We possibly have 3 top 100 players. And even that is debatable. Critta kiks and Burton would be the only ones that you’d think make a top 100 list. We are still building and far from the end result. Only upwards from here. And we have 6 years of Ciro and Gus leading us down a path of greatness hopefully.

Strange’s and Munster’s kicking games are no comparison to Burton’s. They’re one trick ponies.

Yeah we’re going to go from 3rd to struggling to make the top 8 lol. Fmd there are some panic merchants on TK. We’re getting Leo and LG will have a whole preseason to work on combinations. Woods will get a start too. We will actually improve next year.

Burton has 12 Try Contributions (Pass before Assist - which only records the last pass) which has Kikau as the leading 2nd rower to Assists @ 9.

Same deal with Sexton who has 10 Try Contributions with Tracey playing that last pass option on the right @ 15 Assists.

People don’t even notice his vision to see something is on, on the outside and get the ball to Kiks. How many long breaks down field has he created doing that? You won’t see it in the stats as it’s just considered an offload and Kiks or Xerri would be the one getting the lb or lb assist.
