It's been a long off-season. He has a lot of back-rent to collect. I very much doubt Gus has any intention whatsoever of paying, he doesn't even want the place. It's cheap, nasty, and stinks of old booze & urine (the accommodation too).

Not defending Gus, but I’ve noticed recently that many online sellers are charging a fair bit for shipping. It may just be that in these particular cases and it stuck out because I’m used to getting free shipping. It depends who you shop with though. A lot of the big name companies offer free shipping, but even Amazon charges a monthly fee for it. It’s also not often for large/bulky items. Generally though, big companies can afford to, but I find that many small businesses don’t offer free shipping. I was looking at some shoes before and I think it was $15-25 shipping. It stands out because buying from all the big franchises like JD, Footlocker or Nike etc, you get free shipping over $100 or something.

Anyway, you’d think a membership pack would include shipping, then again I don’t know what they cost and what they include, so maybe they’re not making that much on them, hence they charge shipping.

It’s not a fair amount to charge for shipping. I’ve setup shipping contracts with membership packs as recent as last September and it’s doesn’t cost that much anywhere. You can ship to regional areas in less than a week for less than $20.
