Lisfranc Fracture.
Really good article here detailing why it's such a problematic injury with a long turnaround/recovery.
Lisfranc (midfoot) injuries result if bones in the midfoot are broken or ligaments that support the midfoot are torn. The severity of the injury can vary from simple to complex, involving many joints and bones in the midfoot.

From everything I've read it seems they tried to tried it without surgery, before realising that surgery was the only option. From surgery generally up to a year to get back after rehab, etc etc.
It's a bastard of a sports injury, because its a mid foot fracture.
