There is a rule which I can't find at the moment, where it is either the ball has to be stationery or moving (I can't remember which) If the defender is outside the in-goal area & grounds the ball then in one instance it is a drop out & the other is a tap. I'd have to find the rule to clarify whether it is correct or not.

I thought the ball always had to roll or bounce dead in the in goal. different story if its on the full obviously

Goal Line Drop Out

TOUCH IN GOALThe ball is touch in-goal when it touches the corner post, in-goal line or any object on or outside the touch in-goal line.’ Section 9 (2)A player is NOT considered to be an ‘object’.

Section 9 notes‘Where the ball which is stationary in the in goal area comes into contact with a player in touch in-goal or over the dead ball line, the ball is deemed to have been made dead by that player’

Section 9.1 notes‘a kick in general play is made dead by a defending player straddling the dead ball line or touch in-goal line, other than being caught on the full’.
Section 8 (4) (i)The non-kicking team must allow the ball to bounce on the ground on or outside of the dead ball line and/or touch in goal lines for it to be made dead by the kicking team, otherwise play will be restarted with a goal line drop out.

so what gutho did against us in the in goal should of been a drop out and not a 20m tap

It was an incorrect ruling. The rule changed years ago. How many times do you see a player shepparding a ball dead then it hits him on the chest even though he has standing out and it's ruled a drop out. The ball has to bounce out in the in goal before it's deemed out. The rule is different to outside the in goal area.

That’s what I thought too

It pisses me off no end that refs invent new rules to fuck us over. We as a club need to call this bullshit out. Preferably heading into the finals it'd be great if we made a little fud calls video that gave us a chance to get the refs to be fair at least through the finals.

Edit.
Even the commentators are seemingly drilled to support the shit because I recall one of them saying how smart it was that it was such a smart move to use an obscure rule.

We've copped all types of astounding calls against us. Impersonating refs, players being penalised for sledging etc. I'm just glad we're playing well enough this year to take it in our stride most weeks.

Is this what you are thinking if?

Goal line dropout

The ball is touch in goal when it touches the corner post, in goal line or any OBJECT on or outside the touch in goal line

A player is NOT considered an object

“Where the ball which is stationary in the goal area comes into contact with a player in touch in goal or over the dead ball line he ball is deemed to have been made dead by that player”

The non kicking team must allow the ball to bounce on the ground on of outside of the dead ball line and/ or touch in goal lines for it to be made dead by the kicking team otherwise play will be restarted with a goal line drop out.

Yeah, I think the rule is if the ball is stationery & the defender is outside the field of play & puts downward pressure on the ball, then it is a tap. The theory being that the ball is deemed out of play. I have seen it done a few times & I don't like the rule, but it is there somewhere.

It's similar to that, but I have seen it a few times where the defender stands outside the area of play & touches the ball & then take a tap. There was an incident a few years ago when the ball was still rolling & the defender did it & the referee ruled a tap, but everyone blew up & said the ball must be stationery. It's there somewhere but finding a complete & up to date list of rules isn't easy because there are so many grey areas etc.

That‘s true. However if the player straddling the ball is pushed into it by an opposing player using his hands it should be a penalty 10 metes out from the tryline. Often this gets missed.
